Spy Shots: 2018 Ford F150: Diesel Possible?

We showed you a video of what sounds like a diesel powered F150 a few months back: 2017 Ford F150 Diesel Caught Testing

And now we see a camo-clad F150 coming from Autoblog. It is about time for the mid-cycle update of the F150, so I snagged several shots that they shared this morning.

If looks like we aren't going to see many differences to the aft of the a-pillar, but up front, there is going to be a pretty major refresh.

The grille is looks to be completely different under there. Looks to me like we are going to see a similar styling to that of the new Super Duty.

    What do you guys think?

I saw a F150 with a diesel driving around here last fall. One good thing about living around Detroit is you get to see a lot of test cars driving around with Manufacturing plates on them all set up with testing equipment. I did stop at a light next to him and ask if it did have a diesel in it and guy driving said yes. He didn't know when it was going to come out though

Well they already have access to the 3 liter V-6 Twin Turbo Diesel in the Range Rovers...fits perfectly into their Eco-Boost lineup.

Up until last year Ford said that they had no intention or need to go diesel in the F150. Seeing how good the Ram Ecodiesel sales have been, it only makes sense for Ford to get in and not lose market share, although in my opinion, the operating cost of a 1/2 tonne diesel nowadays (read EPA regs) is absolutely ridiculous. It will only pay off for the customer if all you do is tow 5k-7k on a regular basis.

13 SuperCrew Ruby Red 302A, 4x4 6.5 box, 3.31, Roush 22's. Twin catch cans, "leveled" with Bilsteins (-2 front, -3 rear), AirLift, SCT. Other's may have displacement on demand... I have an endless supply of torque at my right foot's demand.

Most of the guys I know with diesels never even come close to using them to their potential. It's not about efficiency for them, it's about bragging about their diesels. My dad just purchased a 2016 GMC Canyon Diesel, totally unnecessary for his little trailer but he'll brag about it for years.

And that's the funny thing....at the camp grounds you see these 3/4 ton diesels pulling a way smaller trailer than my 33' Springdale....makes me grin.
