Friend of mine just traded his 13 ecoboost for a 17 5.0 and he said he has zero regrets.

But I may end up with the 2nd gen Ecoboost....who knows. Definitely won't count out the 5.0 though.
The 2018 got a bump in numbers too so that'll be interesting

Ya I know, I mean it'll be interesting to feel the difference with the increased numbers and yet another reason I'll be giving the 5.0 a hard consideration.

So they're already replacing the 2.7 baby boost????

Starting this fall, Ford will offer five engine options in its new 2018 F-150: a new 3.3-liter naturally aspirated V6, modified versions of the outgoing 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 and 5.0-liter V8, and the same 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 and 3.5-liter high-output EcoBoost V6 from 2017.

I don't know, what do you mean? It's getting dual injection and a 10 speed like the other two. Which comes at +25 tq.

I think they have bumped the output, TFL had report 400 ft-lbs. I'm extremely curious though it it actually is more output or they just gave it a more realistic rating.

Well, the way I read that comment of "modified version of the OUTGOING 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6" leads me to believe that the modifications are the duel induction and tweakings, but that past 2018 the 2.7 might not be an option?????

I don't know. I read it to mean the engine that is going out of the plant.

I doubt they'd revamp an engine they are already planning to scrap.

I just don't like the rpm to get to that point, and the volume of the radio to ground out the noise of it. Lol but those are good numbers.

If you go by the torque curves on the GM DI v8's, then the new 5.0 could be making 80+% of its torque at 2000 rpm. I think GM's 460 ft-lbs is at about the same rpm but they make like 390 at 2000. It's no ecoboost but it will probably lug around pretty well.

Plus, full race could make a set of twin scroll manifolds for the 5.0 and strap a pair of twin scroll 7163's on. That would be game over for the ecoboost
