The new 2018 Ford Mustang and the 2018 Ford F150 will both get a new nighttime pedestrian detection system which will make the vehicles safer day and night. Do you think it would have been great to get a day time pedestrian detection system too? I think most accidents happen during daytime. Your thoughts?

Ford Motor Company announced today that the 2018 Ford Mustang and 2018 Ford F150 will both feature a new Nighttime Pedestrian Detection system which can apply the brakes in the event of an imminent collision with a person on foot — a feature which Ford says will reduce driver stress at night.

Ford’s press release this morning made it official that both the 2018 Mustang and the 2018 F150 will both feature a new Nighttime Pedestrian Detection system. The company offered details on how the system works, but before getting into that, I want to talk a little about the beginning of Ford’s announcement.
Drivers are Afraid of the Dark
Ford’s announcement started by referencing a poll that the Motor Company conducted which found that most drivers’ greatest fear when driving at night is hitting a pedestrian they cannot see in the dark. Ford points out that some experts believe that this fear of hitting a person on foot while driving at night stems from the early day of mankind, where man was more likely to be attacked by predators at night…essentially causing humans to be inherently afraid of the dark.

When people worry about hitting something that they cannot see and cannot predict while driving at night, their increased stress levels can negatively impact their driving abilities, so to help cut back on that stress — Ford Motor Company is rolling out their Nighttime Pedestrian Detection system.

2017 Ford F-150 Raptor: AutoGuide.com Truck of the Year Contender

Feb 16, 2017 - 3:43 PM - by AutoGuide.com

Pickups are big business in the auto industry and there are plenty of new entries on the scene in 2017. While each of these trucks has its pros and cons, we’re here to tell you which of these redesigns resulted in the best product overall.

To decide which truck is the best new product of the year, AutoGuide.com gathered together five of the most significantly revised pickups to hit the market to evaluate each over three days of testing. Evaluation of these workhorses was done the high desert of California, and among the cacti and creosote bushes, we pushed in each truck with a trailer tow test, desert off-roading, and plenty of empty highway miles.

This year, our contenders are the Ford F-250, Ford F-150 Raptor, Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro, Nissan Titan, and Honda Ridgeline. We will release a new video on each contender every day leading up to Friday, Feb. 17, when we will announce our winner. Of course, each truck has its strengths and weaknesses, but we are here to find the truck that is truly special and has risen above its predecessor the furthest.

Here’s the lowdown on our fifth contender, the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor.

2018 Ford F150 Gets a Diesel Engine and a New Look

Ford Motor Company has used the 2017 Detroit Auto Show to introduce the facelifted 2018 Ford F150 pickup truck and while the new look is a nice change, the big news is that the 2018 F150 will feature a 3.0L PowerStroke diesel engine – confirming the popular rumors of a diesel-powered half ton Ford. Reprinted with TorqueNews.com with permission.

It has been speculated for at least a year now that the Ford F150 would eventually get a small diesel engine and more recently, spy shots showing test trucks driving around Metro Detroit led us to believe that the F150 would be getting a facelift in the immediate future.

Well, the future is now, as Ford Motor Company has announced that the 2018 Ford F150 will get a new front end, new taillights and a new diesel engine which just might make the F150 the most fuel-friendly half ton truck in America.

The New Face of the 2018 F150
First up, the biggest surprise with the 2018 Ford F150 is the refreshed face. The current F150 was introduced for the 2015 model year, so after only three model years, the Motor Company has given their bestselling half ton truck a pretty significant exterior refresh.

The key change is the grille design of the 2018 F150, which features a bold two-bar design which spans the grille opening and reaches into the headlight housings. The headlights themselves are new as well, with a similar basic design to that found on the current F150, but the new LED headlights are larger, giving the front end a much wider feel. It should also be noted that on at least one 2018 F150 trimline (presumably the base model), the grille is left open, without the bars, but the headlight design is similar.

Continuing that widening feel is a redesigned front bumper that looks a great deal like the current F150, but revised fog light bezels give the bumper a wider look. Overall, the changes to the front of the 2018 F150 go a long way in making it look bigger and more like the current Super Duty pickups – and that isn’t a bad thing.

2018 Ford F-150 Debuts with New Diesel Engine and More Tech

Jan 09, 2017 - 8:00 AM - by AutoGuide.com

Just ahead of its hometown auto show in Detroit, the refreshed 2018 Ford F-150 was revealed with more technology, a new diesel engine, and a segment-first 10-speed transmission.

The biggest news with the 2018 Ford F-150 is the availability of an all-new 3.0-liter Power Stroke turbo diesel engine, which marks the first time the popular pickup is offered with a diesel. Although output for this new engine has not been fully revealed, expect it to be both fuel efficient and well-suited for towing.

The refreshed truck also replaces the base 3.5-liter V6 with a more efficient 3.3L unit that is expected to offer the same 282 horsepower and 253 pound-feet of torque as the engine it replaces. The second-generation 2.7L EcoBoost also gets tweaked for better efficiency, more output, and better durability and will be paired with the new 10-speed transmission. Not to be left out, the 5.0L V8 also gets upgraded for higher output and will also be hooked up to the new 10-speed. Ford has not yet announced specific output for the upgraded engines but has confirmed that stop/start will be standard on all F-150s.

Foutz Motorsports 2017 Ford F150 Raptor Race Truck Headed to NAIAS

The production-spec 2017 Ford F150 Raptor campaigned by Greg Foutz Motorsports has finished the 2016 offroad racing season with flying colors and after being closely examined by the Ford Performance team in Detroit, this hard-run Raptor will be displayed at the 2017 North American International Auto Show in the Motor City. Reprinted with permission from TorqueNews.com.

The 2017 Ford F150 Raptor has similar expectations to the previous generation SVT Raptor, but rather than the proven drivetrain bits from the previous Raptor – including the 6.2L V8 and a 6-speed automatic transmission – the new Raptor relies on a handful of “unusual” mechanical components. Most notably, the V8 has been replaced by a new version of the 3.5L EcoBoost twin turbo V6 and the 6-speed automatic has been replaced by a new 10-speed gearbox.

Since it was announced that the 2017 F150 Raptor would rely on EcoBoost power sent through the new 10-speed gearbox, there have been critics who insisted that this drivetrain component won’t be ideal for a high performance pickup. To prove those folks wrong, Ford set up Greg Foutz Motorsports with a new production-spec F150 Raptor to campaign in a handful of key off-road races throughout 2016.

With the EcoBoost engine, the new 10-speed gearbox, the high performance suspension setup and the new advanced four wheel drive system, the 2017 Raptor “race truck” was able to finish some of the toughest races in North America.

“We didn’t slap our name on a trophy truck like other manufacturers do,” said Brian Bell, Ford Raptor marketing manager. “We ran a stock truck with full factory air conditioning, factory glass, AM/FM SIRIUS/XM satellite radio, the same engine and advanced off-road drivetrain and suspension that you’ll soon see at your Ford dealer.”
