A report by Reuters confirmed that 2017 Ford F150 pickups are piling up at storage facilities between production and dealerships as the automaker works to complete testing of the new 10-speed automatic transmission – and today we look at why this testing process is preventing the company from shipping these new trucks. TorqueNews reports. Reprinted with permission.

There have been videos floating around the internet showing a massive parking lot full of 2017 Ford F150 Raptors, which has left people wondering why these trucks are not being shipped to dealerships around the country. According to a “top executive” from Ford Motor Company who spoke with Reuters, many of the 2017 F150 pickups with the new 10-speed automatic transmission are being held back from dealerships as engineers work to finalize the testing procedures.

In other words, these trucks have been built and they are ready to ship, but since the engineering team has finished their final tests on the new 10-speed transmission, these trucks are being held at the various storage facilities. Once the final phases of testing have been completed, these trucks will all be shipped, if no issues are found during the final tests – but what happens if the engineers do find a problem?

This is the question from many online who don’t understand why Ford would built scores of new F150s with a transmission which has not been fully tested. Unfortunately, many reports of this delay don’t explain exactly what goes on during the final phases of the testing process, so while Ford hasn’t specified exactly what they are finalizing – we can make some guesses based on the normal course of events leading up to a new component launch.

2016 Ford F-150 owners debate the best floor mats

Now that wintry weather is moving in through out the United States, drivers of 2015 and 2016 Ford F-150s are trying to determine the best floor mats for fit, coverage and wear.

I don’t know why drivers wait until the wintry weather moves in to worry about floor mats, I guess it is just their nature to procrastinate. One of the hottest topics right now on a Ford F-150 forum is asking, “What is the best floor mat for a 2015 or 2016 Ford F-150?” Reprinted from TorqueNews.com with permission.

The Ford F-series has been the best-selling vehicle for decades and drivers are very opinionated about what seems to work the best. A vendor is the first to answer, “The Husky X-Acts are amazing mats on par with Weather Tech top of the line. The Huskys are going to cost less and get to you faster then the WT.”

Husky apparently has two well-known offerings, the X-acts and the WeatherBeaters. The X-acts are more expensive but cheaper than the WeatherTechs. The interesting new design is a full panel than covers the entire floor of the back seat. No more little mats that slide around and allow dirt to get everywhere.

“Another vote for Husky E-Act. Had WT's on last truck. IMO, Husky's are a big improvement.” It is amazing to me how many drivers have tried different companies over the years. Stan says “Had the Weathertech mats in the 350. they were great. Got the Husky Xact fit for the 150. I like them because I think they're a better looking mat and have a similar function.
A driver from Georgia figures that Ford knows best. He says, “I bought the F-150 OEM tray style "all weather" floor mats, I like them!!”

Ford Recalls 2017 Super Duty Pickups Over Fuel Tank Issue

Dec 21, 2016 - 4:22 PM - by AutoGuide.com

Ford has announced two new recalls, one of which affects the brand new 2017 Super Duty lineup.

A total of 9,400 vehicles are affected in North America, with 8,000 of those being the new 2017 Super Duty. The issue with the trucks is a fuel tank strap reinforcement that may not have been used. This can lead to the fuel tank moving out of position and potentially contacting the ground. The affected trucks were built between Aug.10 and Sept.17 of this year at the Kentucky Truck Plant.

The second recall affects about 1,300 Ford Taurus, Flex, Explorer, Police Interceptor Utility and LincolnMKT vehicles. The problem is an improperly brazed turbocharger oil supply tube that can leak engineoil, potentially leading to a fire.

To fix the trucks, Ford dealers will install new fuel tank strap reinforcements while the rest of the vehicles will get a new turbocharger oil supply tube.

Ford Caught Testing an Unlikely Pair of New Vehicles Together

Dec 15, 2016 - 1:32 PM - by AutoGuide.com

Both the Ford Mustang and F-150 will be getting updated for the 2018 model year and it seems Ford is out testing the pair together.

Spy photographers have caught both models testing together, with the Mustang wearing more camouflage than the F-150 pickup. Expect the sports car to get a moderate, mid-cycle facelift with the most significant changes happening to the front end. Although it’s heavily camouflaged, we can see new LED-ringed headlights peeking from underneath. In the rear, it appears the tail lights will also undergo some changes for the updated model.

Expect to see the company’s new 10-speed automatic transmission join the Mustang’s lineup, the same unit co-developed with GM and used in the new Chevrolet Camaro.

Since the current F-150 has been on the market since 2014, it’s time for it to receive a nice update too. Like the Ford Mustang, it appears the front and rear fascias will be changed as well as the headlightsand the tail lights. The bigger news is that Ford will finally outfit the F-150 with the long-rumored 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine. The automaker will also update the 5.0-liter V8 engine, and both powerplants will be mated to the new 10-speed automatic transmission.

Owners of 2015 Ford F-150s are upset over steering wheels that are peeling

An owner of a 2015 Ford F-150 complained on a forum about problems with his steering wheel peeling and looking bad. Other owners are reporting similar problems. TorqueNews.com reports.

An angry owner of a 2015 Ford F-150 started the conversation complaining that the leather-like finish on his steering wheel was disintegrating. Tenacious from Florida wrote “More falls off everyone time I drive, it's happening in a few spots. Anyone else have this happening?”

A driver who goes by Bleda agreed. “Not surprised, the leather on my steering wheel is probably the worst quality leather I've ever had in a vehicle. I honestly thought it was vinyl.”

An owner from Colorado was stunned. Platinum said “Are you wearing Gloves that might be abrasive? The wear looks unusual. I've owned many Leather F150 steering Wheels & never had a problem.”

A driver from Maine tried to help, “It's vinyl coated leather. The vinyl is flaking off. It's a covered repair under warranty if you take it in to your dealer.”

A Canadian driver is similarly angry, “Mine isn't peeling but it sure looks shiny and crappy, considering how fake and terrible the leather is I'd expect it to wear better.”

Has your F150's steering wheels acted like this?
