Fake. The 2018 turbos are actually the same as the ones in my 2014. Not possible.

Something tells me running the engine at those levels isn't going to lead to a long life... especially if you unleash the beast from time to time.

You'll also notice that the 400whp rated engine put down 364whp.
Less than a 10% drive train loss? Never going to happen.
Under-rated engine? I doubt Ford would under-rate an SUVs output.
    Happy dyno? Ding ding ding.

This was a regular EB, not the 400hp limited. And the regular 3.5’s have been putting down 350-360 whp on 93 octane pretty consistently. The 375 hp factory rating is on 87.

Gearhead got just about the same results stock:

I am not sure how Ford rates them but it certainly seems its conservative.

I wonder. I also wonder where the 450rwhp safe limit number came from. We all accept it as gospel but has anyone really pushed beyond it and lost a motor? The transverse ecoboosts go well beyond 450.

People lose stock motors somewhat frequently so whose to say.

    True!

There's plenty of catastrophic failures on oem power 3.5's.

And then plenty of reliable examples that are tuned and ran aggressively as daily drivers.

In my opinion, QC is the bigger risk when buying one of these trucks.

Turbo speed is my personal limiting factor. I dont push beyond that. The depicted power level is very doable.

I meant Ford QC Matt. Not tune-guru QC.

In other words, when you go to the dealership, those 100 Ecoboosts in inventory are NOT all equal. Lol

You know, I dont really know where the 450 mark really came from. There are so many variables that can impact longevity, outside of the tune itself.

That said, I've been driving my truck at about 430whp for the last year (since the turbos). Knock on wood, nothing has kaboomed yet.

Some motors might not make it to 400 depending on many factors, and some may live at 500+ for a while. Proper maintenance, quality tunes and parts, and a little bit of knowledge should keep most motors going for a long while.
