    Fluid Change

So I called the dealership to schedule a transmission and rear diff service. I'm currently at 32k on my 2017 3.5 ecoboost. When I told them the mileage, they stated there was no need until I hit 60k. Does this seem correct? This is my first ford and all my gm trucks were always down around 30k..

You are sure to get differing opinions stated here and I'm not really sure how I feel myself.

But I do know that Fords own manual indicated on one of my trucks that the transmission didn't require servicing for some CRAZY thing like 125,000 miles?

I just could never come to grips with that. Much like their oil change intervals on new vehicles. Just can't do it.

I agree with @snakebitten I feel like the intervals are way too long. I don't care for them. I usually do the diffs every 15-20k. The trans every 20-30k. It is cheap and easy insurance.

The ford tech on youtube has shown how the shift solenoids attractive metal, thus you want to change fluid and clean magnet every 30k. On new alum. trucks, they have two magnets in the pan according to him.

The gasket is solid and re-useable on the pan and very easy to change yourself.

I would love to change my own diff and transmission fluid. Ive never done it, so a little leary. I have changed my own oil in this truck every 5k.
Any credible tutorial videos on method for changing rear diff and transmission fluid on 2017 3.5? What brand and spec of fluid?

Its pretty simple but if you don't know how look up ford tech maculoco however the hell it is spelled on youtube and he has videos that hold your hand through the whole thing.

6r80 fill cold and have fluid between the a and b hatch marks.

Transmission maybe but differential fluid I cannot see how that would be necessary. For the diff I would follow Ford’s recommendation but use a good synthetic IE Amsoil. Anything else is a waste

Unless your truck has been submerged your front diff only has whatever miles you've been in actually 4x4.

And to think VW now has 15K Km oil change intervals....

I've got about $130 worth of trans fluid (5 qts) and front and rear diff fluid. Went to the dealer for it, so it's all Motorcraft.. Yes, probably paid too much, but I just feel better using the MC stuff for these things.. I also used the MC antifreeze when I did a drain and fill of the rad.

I've done the trans once before (pan drop and fill) at around 35k miles. I'm now at 75k miles so going to do it again and do the diffs just because I tow with it and just seems like the thing to do now.

I change the engine oil between 4-5k miles with Pennzoil Platinum and a MC filter.

Yes, Fordtechmeloco or however you spell it has some great step by step vids on the process for our F150's.

    Good luck!

I feel like this is reasonable for diffs
