I put 85,000 miles on my 3.5 Platinum Screw 4x4 with Max Tow and about half of that was towing a 6,500-7,000 lb travel trailer all over the country. The only problem I had was the Electronic Throttle Body went bad at around 33,000 miles. My truck was completely stock. Traded it in on a new 2018 F-350 diesel when we decided to get a fifth wheel trailer and the day I traded it everything worked just like the day I bought it.

I didn't read the thread so I don't know if anyone already covered this, but only ONE of the OP's concerns is related to the EB. The rest are F150 issues in general which could affect any F150 with any engine. Last I checked, the engine doesn't cause leaky windows...

We gots a '13 Eco we brought home on Halloween day 2012. Only have a little over 44,000 miles on it. The engine has only been in the shop for recalls & oil changes so far. But the truck itself well... Had to replace the windshield at 5800 miles and again at 33,000 miles. Had a leaking rear differential seal when it had only 6,300 miles on it. AND ....It's on its 3rd battery & 3rd or 4th pair of windshield wipers. POC truck. lol

Name a high volume vehicle line that doesn't have issues? In fact, you'd be hard pressed to name any vehicle line that doesn't have "issues" of some sort.

No kidding. Even my little Mazdarati, which has to be one of the most simple, normally aspirated, stripped to almost bare necessities (~2100lbs?) cars could be expected to be almost bullet proof. And you absolutely CAN just rail on it. It's designed to be tossed!

But the 2016 model has a potential weak 2nd and 3rd gear that can suddenly just pop and leave you stranded.

You know me, of course, I ignore the possibility and completely squeeze it for all the joy I can get out of it.

If it pops, the newer version of the tranny is supposedly fixed. Who knows?

I have a ‘12 3.5L. She ran fine up until 180K. I had the tranny rebuilt recently. I am considering options for what to do about the existing engine (rebuild or replace), and am now leaning towards going with a custom solution from an EcoBoost expert in NJ. This guy and his shop have revolutionized the EcoBoost experience by rethinking the platform and upgrading its components from soup to nuts. If I go this route it’ll be mighty pricey but I’ll have a 500+ hp EcoBeast that I can tow a sh*t-ton with and get another 200K miles out of her. I bought my 3.5L for the long haul. She is one of the rare 7-lug long bed 3.5’s and is built like a beast for a 150. I’ll create a follow up post when the deed is done for those looking to get a long life out of their 1st and 2nd gen 3.5’s.

Just traded in my ‘13 3.5 2 weeks ago with 120k miles for a new ‘18 Lariat with the 2.7

Replaced original Goodyear’s at 70k and still had tread left
    I changed plugs at 80k
    Brakes and rotors at 85k

Then at 100k had to change the heater resistor behind the glove box for $60 and 5 minutes of my time.

Other than the full length crack at the bottom of my windshield I got from a dump truck kicking up a rock 4 days after I bought it that was still there when I traded it, was an absolutely amazing truck.

Must have been the fresh Mobile 1 I replaced every 10-15k miles that kept her purring.

I hope to have the same results from the new one.

I have a 2013 that I brought home on 4/20/13 and now, 6 years later with 81000+ on the odometer, I haven't experienced a single issue of any kind with my truck so far. I probably shouldn't have typed that because now I'm probably doomed. I've been debating about getting a new truck but I'm waiting to see what 2020 brings before jumping into the fray.
