    2012 F150 Lariat EcoBoost Rear Defrost/Defog Issue

    Hi all,

I just purchased a 2012 F150 Lariat (EcoBoost; 2x4) from a private seller. I often find myself using the rear defrost on my car for defogging purposes in the morning. I went to turn it on in the truck and the light isn't indicating that it is working. Tried it again this morning and it turned on for a brief moment, and then disconnected. I did some research and found older threads (from 2011 and 2015) talking about similar issues. I was wondering if there was ever any general consensus on a fix? If it matters, the truck has 67,225 miles at the time of this writing. Thanks!

Mine is broke but I do not mind it being broke. A lot of reports of back windows shattering when using it.

HOLD UP!! If you bought it from a private seller they may have disconnected something on purpose. People were doing this because the window can shatter from using the rear defroster. Not sure what the solution is to fix, but many just disconnected the window.

Wow, I didn't realize windows were actually shattering. o.O I have a basic oil change and multi point inspection scheduled for today, so I suppose I could see if they notice anything. I'm trying to avoid a dealer's insane charge for a diag scan. I did read about the windows disconnecting if they're even slightly open, but I haven't had a chance to double check that just yet.

If anyone else knows of any other solutions out there, please let me know. Thanks for the replies!

I am also interested in this as I have the same issue (2014 eco 80k miles) rear defrost will not enable/illuminate on the dash, will not turn on, no blown fuses / etc.

Mine did the same thing it was under warranty so took it to Ford, their fix was to replace the rear window. They told me the contact in the window goes bad and the defrost will not turn on.
