I just replaced mine with the super stant variety. When I shoved the o-ring up in there, it just stayed in place. I quickly put the housing back and tightened the screws a few turns at a time, alternating from one screw to the other so it would seat flush.

Is the o-ring falling out of the hole? Is it wet? mine was dry when I did it.

Mine hung in just fine. I put the thermostat in, then the o ring and it all held in place.
