    Sync update question

I logged into the Ford website and it says there's an update for my truck. I have the sync version with myford, not the touch, but it is the bigger screen. For the life of me I cannot find the menu to initiate the update even though I have the files on a USB drive plugged in. Anyone ever did this before? What am I missing? Again, this is not the one with the touch screen.

Figured it out finally. The official directions on Ford's web site are completely wrong. I have Sync with MyFord. Not MyFord Touch, just so you know. I think I ended up finding the right options in the Sync PHONE menu. In the phone menu, I think I went to the Advanced menu and there was an 'Install Applications' option and when I selected that, I saw it accessing the USB drive. Once that got going, the whole process took maybe 15 minutes or so. There's not much on the screen to know what it's doing, so you need to be sure to keep your vehicle started and running because if the power saver kicks in when the update is in progress, you may be hosed.

After the update, I had to pair my phone again and setup the phone settings again as well as the sound settings. It did retain my Sirius channels and radio stations along with the time and date too.

    Sync version 4.4

    Update includes:
Bluetooth© Connectivity Improvements:Enhanced Bluetooth phone connection stability
Enabled track information to be displayed for Bluetooth-streamed media including metadata such as song title, artist name and album title
More robust Message Access Profile (MAP) functionality to handle SMS reception and Text2Speach output
Media Connectivity Improvements:Improved media connectivity for USB-equipped Apple devices, as well as streamlined device initialization and authentication process
Previous USB or Bluetooth media source playback now resumed after ignition cycle
AppLink Functionality Improvements:Better AppLink customer experience with more robust features and reliable functionality

Yes it's very recent. I just noticed it when I logged into the Ford web site to update my oil change info and the site said there was a Sync update available for my truck (based on the VIN number). The process to update it is a little convoluted and confusing if you ask me....but I finally figured it out. And I'm not talking about the downloading and unzipping of the install files and putting those files at the root of a USB memory stick that's confusing. That part was fine. I'm talking about the process in the truck. The directions they gave on their web site are wrong (for my scenario).

I eventually have to go in for a seat sensor recall, I will have them update sync while I am there.

The update for mine was for the 'Sync with MyFord' (the 4" screen or whatever it is). I don't have the touch screen. I know there was an update available for MyFord Touch a few months ago though.

My XLT has the basic SYNC, no touchscreen, no 4" screen or anything and I had the 4.4 update available to me.

Thanks for the info. I hadn't checked in on mine for awhile, and it just kept saying I was up to date. Maybe this will fix the microphone issue I've been having? I've got just the basic sync with the 4" screen, so this should apply to me too.

Just updated mine and the mic is working again.. Will have to wait and see for how long, but at least it's updated now.

    Thanks again,
