Ram vs Ecoboost so far

I purchased a new Ram in 2014 SCSB Hemi 6 speed 3.92 posi, man I though that truck was the sh!t. Then my wife decided she wanted to go camping after telling me for 20 years "I don't camp". We bought a 25' camper that weighs about 5500 lbs loaded, I hook my Hemi onto it and start trying to pull this around Idaho, every way you go seems like it's uphill, man I was disappointed, this damned truck won't pull anything, it's screaming it's lungs out in 4th, 3rd, and sometimes in 2nd trying to deal with not mountains but large hills and it rides like a lumber wagon.
So I do a bunch of research and decide to replace it with an Ecoboost, I though maybe I'll buy a new one but after pricing it out I decide I need to buy a used one instead, still real expensive. Then I ran across this 2011 I purchased it has 60,000 miles, it's an XLT Supercab "finally a place for the dog to ride" SB 4X4 "never owned a 4X4 before" 3.5 Ecoboost, it was ordered with 7700LBS package, max Trailer Tow and the 3.73 rear end and a bunch of other stuff, $6,000 in options, just what I need it was affordable from a real Ford dealership.
I've been driving this truck around for 3 weeks so far and I must say this is way more truck than that Ram, even with 50,000 more miles. It rides better, doesn't try to beat your brains out, the cab is much more roomy and has more leg room, is quieter, the transmission shifts so much better and smoother than the Ram it's hard to believe, it just overall seems like a much more sturdy truck and performance, this truck would have absolutely eat that Ram for lunch even though it weighs close to a 1000LBS more, this truck seems to run way better than the Hemi ever did, "the Hemi had an S&B filter system, custom exhaust, and a custom tune"
I've put in new plugs and coil boots, cleaned all the sensors in the intake track, drilled a small hole in the intercooler, installed a green filter, changed out the factory box caps, changed the rear speakers, put on a new set of Michelins, and changed 13 lug nuts that where messed up, I have a UPR catch can on the way for it also. Im still have to change the coolant and get some Royal Purple in it.
So far this change from Ram to a Ford seems to be a real upgrade, I just hope this truck pulls that trailer like I see them pull in all the videos on You Tube.
I'm looking forward to this camping season instead of dreading it.

Looks like you got your bases covered.

Make sure you have the latest ford ecm flash.

My tournament partner and I would take turns using his truck one month, mine the next, etc. to pull his boat to tournaments. One of the first few times we used my truck, we ended up behind a blue-hair in a Caddy on a 2-lane rural highway. I'm talking 25 mph in a 65 speed zone. We got to the first passing zone and I punched it pretty good to go around her. I've pulled trailers countless times but my truck still surprises me sometimes. He cursed a couple of times and grinned. He still likes his Chevy but he knows the EB will outperform it in every possible way now.

Just traded in my 2014 Ram hemi qc 4x4 for a 2.7l Screw 4x4 a few weeks ago.

The hemi with the 8-speed and 3.92 rear feels faster. Thing will absolutely fly.
Don't get me wrong, the little 2.7l w/3.55 and 10sp is quick. Actually seems a little quicker than the hemi off the line when in sport mode (and using all the damn gears), but the hemi w/8sp-3.92 is faster....if that makes any sense.

On the flip side, the f150 feels to be of better quality and build.

I'd believe that the Hemi is quicker on the top end, especially at sea level. Its got a pretty large HP advantage stock vs stock. The 2.7 has the advantage out of the hole but once you are rolling and in the power band on the hemi I bet it will pull on it.

Plus the 8HP70 in the Ram still has a 1st gear advantage over the 10 speed in the ford. That plus the 3.92 rear end, the Ram has a pretty good gearing advantage out of the hole.

Yeah the hemi was probably sucking wind at your altitude up in Idaho. The ecoboost will basically run at full power no mater the altitude, you just may experience a little more lag. I noticed driving up to Silverton from Durango CO, where you get up to almost 12k ft, that the truck was a little laggy on the switchbacks.

I did the calculations for Boise's altitude and the Hemi is down 32 HP and it's up every direction from here. This is one of the main reasons I decided on a turbocharger truck.

I'm sorry (not really), but I always wince when I hear the name "Hemi"....because it isn't one and Fiat shouldn't gravy train off the name.
It was a beast in the 70's, when it had real hemispherical combustion chambers!
When one pulls beside my Boost I sort of feel sorry for them-lol.....than I show them my taillights.
Their is not a better half ton pickup on the market than the F150 Ecoboost-period.
Wait....maybe Ford can slap "Cammer" on a `19.
That would be great.
The 3.5 TT stock mops up a Ram.
Now drop a 6.2 Hellcat in a Ram and the game changes.

Towing you won't be disappointed. That is where the Ecoboost REALLY shines. I tow a 7,500 lb loaded toy hauler and it never feels labored. If you drive it like a sane person the engine rarely goes over 3,000 rpm. Pulling the big long hills around here (6-8% grades) it never has any power issues and I've been all the way up to 8,000 ft with it.

Honestly pulls a lot like my old 6.0 diesel which had an additional 150 lb-ft of torque but about 40 less hp. Pretty amazing for a gas engine.

the 6.2 hellcat engine is over rated. 707crank hp... the gen 3 coyote makes that with a whipple on less boost with 93 octane (940 crank hp) meanwhile the DEMON makes 840 using 100+ octane with a special ECU from mopar.

Coyote> all other V8 platforms
Ecoboost> all other truck engines.

Ford is dominating in the powertrain department.

The 8HP70 is a damn good transmission however (go drive one and you will be impressed with how smooth it is. I was.)

I drove one in an ecodiesel ram and it was very smooth, but they programmed it like a bunch of baboons. The thing didnt utilize the diesel torque at all.

All right, new and 1st time owner of F-150 ECO. I traded a 16 Ram Rebel in for a 2.7 CC FX4 XLT and I am here to tell you, there is no comparison between the 2. I do not drive a lot but did put about 18K on the Rebel and was not a fan of it the whole 2 years, this little 2.7 (half the size of the HEMI) has way more capabilities, a lot more comfortable to rid in and definitely quicker to 75. The issue's w/Ram is the same as everyone else probably....I towed a 5K trailer to hunting camp w/the Rebel and it had an issue climbing at around 8500 ft, would not get out of 5th the whole climb and even on a straight away/level ground around Craig would not stay in 8th let alone 7th was constantly in 6th averaging a mere 11 mpg...horrible. I towed the same trailer down to Pueblo in the new ECO averaging 19.4 MPG and didn't have an issue going up to Castle Rock and over Monument, actually don't think it even shifted out 8th except to pass. I had one other main issue w/the Rebel the airbag system....if you put anything over 400lbs in the bed it would not lift to off road mode, now tell me who makes a truck you can put anything in the bed to go off road w/? My 2 scents

Yeah I have heard the air bag system did have a safety limit, but the way all the people on the Ecodiesel forum talked it was like 2000 lbs of payload you could throw in before it got mad.
