It’s 2022, and the Ford F-150 is still king. As one of the absolute best-selling nameplates across all of North America, the F-150 is absolutely everywhere, and there are countless different use cases for the half-ton truck, from everyday commuter and family-hauler, to weekend tow vehicle, to work truck, to tough and rugged off-road rig.
All of that means that when it comes to tires, there had better be a vast array of options available to meet each one of these individual use cases.
Fortunately, that is the case, so if your Ford F-150 didn’t come from the factory with quite the right set of tires for your needs, there’s almost certainly a better tire out there for you somewhere. You just have to find it.

It’s for the Ford F-150 driver who plans on doing a little bit of everything: highway driving, wintertime commuting, and light off-roading. Speaking of do-it-all tires, the Michelin Defender LTX M/S doesn’t earn a spot on this list for any one outstanding feature. Rather, it’s a true jack of all trades, with commendable on-road grip in the dry, wet, and light snow thanks to intelligent tread design with solid, independent blocks, high-density siping, and deep channels and grooves. In fact, the wintertime traction of the Defender LTX M/S is uncommonly good for such a general-purpose all-season tire, and it delivers exceptional comfort and a long tread life to boot, thanks to Michelin’s strong, proprietary Evertread compound. If you live somewhere with truly harsh winters, we might recommend looking elsewhere; the Defender LTX M/S is not severe snow service-rated. The BFGoodrich T/A KO2 is something of a gold standard when it comes to off-road-ready all-terrain tires – one that cemented its reputation when it was made the factory tire for the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor. Ford chose well, because the T/A KO2 is a gem, with a sophisticated high-void area tread design with multi-angled interlocking blocks, serrated shoulders that bite and claw to find traction even in deep loose terrain and over rocks, and a racing-derived tread compound developed to deliver outstanding cut-, chip-, and tear-resistance while ensuring a dramatically longer service life than the previous-generation design. 10. Dick Cepek Extreme Country Mud-Terrain Radial
Dick Cepek is a brand you might never have heard of if you’re not a true off-roading enthusiast, but simply put, the company makes some of the finest off-road tires available today. Case in point: the Dick Cepek Extreme Country mud-terrain radial. The Extreme Country boasts one very impressive-looking tread design, with big void areas and stone ejector ribs to keep the tread clear, alternating shoulder scallops for superior “bite” in deep loose terrain and on rocks, and trademark “DC” sidebiters on the sidewalls for protection and even more loose-surface traction. Despite its tough, aggressive approach to devouring anything and everything off-road, the Dick Cepek Extreme Country is still usable on pavement, with large, more tightly-packed center tread blocks that deliver decent on-road grip and a (relatively) quiet ride. Maybe for A/T tires it’s #1 but for street duty the ride and traction of the Michelin Defenders is fantastic. I actually replaced a fairly new set of those same Good Years with the Defenders back in November and there was night and day difference between the two. I was slipping and sliding all over the place on those Fortitude HTs and they probably didn’t have 10K miles on them.
