So I have been researching all the F150 sites for the last several weeks. Have a 2012 F150 XLT ecoboost. 80K miles, throwing the P0017 code occasionally. Literally the CEL will go on and off throughout the day. As well as have decreased power sometimes, but not all the time. Had a certified Ford mechanic friend of a friend do a basic Ford computer hookup to just rule out the known timing chain issue. Ford mechanic said the timing chain was fine, as where the cam and turbos. Have done the suggestion of changing the oil and spark plugs. None of this has rectified the CEL yet. Thoughts?

I'm pretty sure that's crankshaft sensor for the code. Changing plugs and oil will do nothing for that. I haven't had the code, but pretty sure you're changing the crank shaft sensor. I'd think a certified Ford mechanic could have told you what this was, and may have been able to fix this.

Good luck with the repair. If this were me, it'd be something i'd want fixed with all haste.

P0017 is related to crank-camshaft being out of sync on bank 1 (pass side). It can be caused by a bad VCT, VCT solenoid, crank sensor, or timing chain being stretched enough to throw them out of sync.

Do you have a rattle at start up after a long cold soak (overnight)?
