If you have 2.0 on the rear, you've addressed exactly what I was speaking of.

That's not unbalanced, imo.

Quality dampening (control) on all corners.

I asked my passengers today if they were OK with me taking a short bumpy dirt road that we were on aggressively. (Everyone does this section at about 5-8mph)

He said sure. She said OK, but skeptically.
I railed. 40-45mph (it's tree lined. So it feels fast)

Both had the same appraisal after we got beyond the rough patch as "it felt so smooth"

Exactly.

I know you know now too. :)

Well Boys and girls, just as luck would have it, I pretty much wrap up what I want to do to the truck and BOOM, **** hits the fan.

Truck started to develop a very distinct knock yesterday. I was hopeful at first that it was a Torque converter, but after pulling out the stethoscope it's clearly coming from the engine's top end, right bank.

FML...

So now I have to figure out what the heck I'm gonna do.

Basically looking at three options
- Put it back to stock as far as I can go and try to get a engine under warranty
- Put it back to stock, talk with my cousin and trade it in at their dealership (700 miles away)and they get the engine covered under warranty
- Call up Mr. Brown and see how much fairy dust I need to sprinkle on the 'ol money tree for a built engine.

Unless I trade it in, I'll have to buy a back up POS to get around until the truck is fixed as we all know, it's not a fast process.

Other than pointing and laughing, Input appreciated.

Sorry to hear that...certainly disheartening. I have a low mileage long block available in Ryan’s possession right now if you’re interested in going the used route. He already pulled the valve covers and did a leak down test. Everything was perfect.

Hard to give you any real input of value until you know exactly what went wrong. I don’t know how many miles you have on the truck but it’s still a fairly new truck. Chances are you’re on top of the finances with it which may or may not be the case with a new one unless you’re flush with cash.

My gut says fix it, you just got it where you wanted. Actually, if it were me I’d consider a LOW (I do mean low) mileage used engine if I didn’t need a built bottom end. Of course, Ryan would be an option there. I don’t know where you’ve ended up on the HP ladder but that may be what you’re missing at this point anyway. If you start over, you’ll probably either drop the 3.5L as a platform (new Coyotes with a blower would be most interesting) or do everything you’ve done to this one all over again. Since virtually none of your existing upgrades will work with an 18’ Gen 2 you can’t come out ahead financially doing all that again on top of a new truck.

Then there’s the other side of the story. If you can see your way to make clear on a new 18’ you may just decide that a Gen 2 left stock is all you really need. ;)

I was actually thinking about your motor. But I'll be honest, I can only see forking out my own dough for a motor if it has some forged parts in it. BUT, having said that it may be a good option to talk to Ryan about. Buy your engine, have him do a basic build on it and ship it on up to me.

I wouldn't be looking for anything crazy as I don't plan on running anything more than GT's are our gas is crap up here. It just leads back to the "getting tuned" discussion again.

This truck is awesome and set up exactly how I want, but with the lack of planning around funding a built motor it isn't the easiest option to swing for.

I'll need a few beers this weekend to formulate a game plan.

Throw a couple shots in the mix before you call me!! Haha in all seriousness, good luck with whatever you decide. I know with all the time and effort I put into my truck, there’s no way I could part with it for years to come.

Truck has exactly 50k miles on it. I knew the risks of cranking up the power and stuff can happen, I would estimate I'm around the 430whp mark at the moment. Just really bad timing as I was just starting to gather funds to pay it off and then start stock piling for a built motor/tranny or a new Raptor(probably a stretch for the next year or so). At least I have substantial "equity" in the truck. There isn't too much owing on it.

If I go the DYI route, I also need to figure out how I can physically swap the motor. I don't have access to shops here like I do back home.

The call of the Gen 2 is tempting. A new purchase would be Just like this truck, I would be looking for the right options and whatever motor it had, would be my starting point. I think I could do some minor bolt-ons and a tune on a Gen 2 and be just fine. If I went with the 5.0, it would have to be whippled. I drove a new 5.0 recently again and I would not be happy with it (it was tuned by 5*) without the blower. Like you say though, nothing carries over (except my Fox 2.5's), so it would be a process of selling and re-buying for the new platform or saying I have to use the funds from the sold parts, just to put towards the cost of a new truck.

Nice thing is, if I can get a decent dollar for all my upgrades I would pull off this truck, it's at least $10k to put towards something else.

Sorry about your issues, sounds pretty similar to the situation I was in a few weeks ago. I think you should at least have a conversation with Mr. Brown before doing too much thinking, get a clear view of all your options. As for the swap, so far its been pretty easy stuff, I yank my old motor out tomorrow and might be somewhat helpful if you need pictures or anything. Also depending on your decision, I may be able to help rid you of some bolt ons. Best advice... sleep on it!

Thank you, I appreciate the input. Hopefully I can have a chat with Mr. Brown in the next little while.

Man, that sucks. One of the worst feelings to get so far down the path on a project and have it take a dump.

Apparently a faulty vacuum pump can make a similar noise to what I’m hearing. It’s a long shot, but I’ll try and confirm this week while waiting on some info for Mr. Brown.

Not the vacuum pump.

Spent some time on it tonight. It really does sound like something in the bottom end. The noise is pretty much non-existent when the engine is cold, but is pretty apparent once it gets up to temp.

Only other thing I can think of at this time is the torque converter, but seems like a long shot given the sound it's making and the "speed" of the sound.

Anyway, I've decided that it will drive me nuts and I need to do something about it.

It's either being traded in or getting a RMB motor (and I'll to a TC at the same time)

Numbers for both options should be in my inbox by EOD Thursday. Then it's time to make a decision.

I'm not going to lie, there is a much harder pull to keep the truck and fix it.

Figured anything out with the cause of your problems or the route to redemption?

No more known about the noise at this time. I may do some more checking this weekend and pull the winch and skid plates just to make sure something isn’t rattling.

Numbers for a new truck don’t make sense at this time, so it’s basically coming down to fixing it and keeping it.

Pulled some more of the add-ons just to make sure it's something in the engine and that appears to still be the case. I can put the stethescope on the oilpan and the noise is very prevalent.

Mr.Brown and I have been in communication. As you would expect he has been extremely helpful in looking at options. Very thankful to have him to reach out to.

I appreciate the kind words. I am always very curious about these types of things. It’s part of what makes me tick. Are you able to confirm if the noise is front or back of the pan? I actually know more people than I can count on one hand that have something going on in the pan. Perhaps identify oil pressure at 1500 rpm when oil is to temp is minimum 30 psi

The plan is to spend some time on it tomorrow. I'm not sure how likely it is, but the noise started right after I did an oil change (Penzoil ultra Platinum and Motocraft filter). Just a guess, but I will swap out the filter and cut it open. I'll also get a oil sample at the same time for Blackstone.

Oil sample off to Blackstone and just letting the truck sit while I figure out what to do with it.

In the meantime picked up what I think is a pretty good deal. 2003 Lincoln Aviator with 100k miles on it. It’s in pretty nice shape, but needs a serious detail and the paint needs some correction.
