They (Zero) have the same exact 4WD dyno that GearHead has. And although it was a few days apart, I got similar numbers on both.

Both state it's not an optimistic dyno if setup and used properly. But like you, I only cared about comparisons, not actual numbers. As the tune got tweaked, the numbers showed the improvement.

I will have to get the pdf when I get home.

7% high?

The guys at the dyno told me that their dyno was a heart breaker and if I wanted glory numbers I needed to go to a Dynojet.

I don’t know if it reads high or low. but if it does I have before numbers to calculate the % gain, and snakebitten Dyno’d there And if memory serves me correctly his gearhead and 5star numbers didnt look inflated.

I will point out that the ecoboost numbers came from a Dynojet...
I was kidding. I think it has more to do with how a dyno is set up, than the brand. As stated before, I care about percentage gains more than anything. Hence why I'm getting a new baseline on a local dyno.

Hey Blown, did you know I had 43% minimum leakdown on every cylinder when I made that graph you posted?

43 up to around almost 57ish. Washed rings the month prior testing fuel injectors that didn’t make it to market.

Makes you wonder what almost 50% leakdown loses you on Lowe boost and pump gas with larger 71/63 turbos with larger A/R’s

Its all good, I do think it would be interesting to see them on your chart even if its apples and oranges.

Based on my knowledge of two-strokes and small 4-stroke engines (think Dirt Bikes, Quads, Sleds and boat motors), bad leak down impacts a engine being able to start, very noticeable with a sled in the cold. It also hurts power more on the bottom end than the top. You can also see different leak-downs on the same engine type dependent on rings chosen and it wouldn't indicate a hit in actual power output.

Just as a example on a older 440 sno-x race sled, I would use a specific ring pack that would provide better power and broader power band. However, they would consistently show a leak down of 5-7% more than the standard rings that came with the pistons.

Again, this is likely not a relevant comparison, but anything more than 15% leak-down on a sled meant you were de-glazing the cylinder and putting a set of rings in it at a minimum. Ring end-gap also comes into play, but maybe more so on a small cc engine.

Here ya go. Kinda interesting to see them overlaid

My truck is a big slow pig but I hope to be posting my 11 second pass and another dyno now that I have headers.

the apples and oranges dyno comparison is fun but I also posted time slips 114mph @ 5800lbs weight that back up the dyno numbers.

while the hp number are cool what matters is toque with these trucks and my truck instantly delivers the goods.

you got time to post the torque curves?

I should tomorrow, let me see if I can plot them out.

Although we all know torque plays a very important roll, it's HP that gets your truck down the track by it's very definition.

I thought HP was to sell cars and torque was to win races? Per some chick names Carol or Baby Ruth or something.

I assume my knowledge is very lacking, but isn't HP a calculation of torque at a given rpm? I've heard so many opposing arguments, I'd like to hear your perspective

Best explanation of TQ and HP that I have received was a bicycle analogy. TQ is how hard you step down on the pedal (twist) and HP is how fast you can pedal that hard. TQ is what gets you rolling and HP is the ability to gain RPM.

Ultimately, HP is the rate determining factor. Yes, Torque is part of the base calculation for determining HP. That's mainly because it's easier to measure torque with the tools we have (Dyno's) and derive HP from there.

Just to add, here are the definitions of each. So you can see how RodCincy's description applies.

horse·pow·er
ˈhôrsˌpou(ə)r/
noun

  • a unit of power equal to 550 foot-pounds per second (745.7 watts).

    torque
    tôrk/
    noun
    • MECHANICS
a twisting force that tends to cause rotation

Small "upgrade", but put in a AGM battery. Mine was not doing well after the truck sat for two months.

I had planned on a Northstar group 65 battery. NSB-AGM65 and ordered it up. Apparently, the supplier couldn't get one for a few weeks and sent me a Odyssey in lieu of. I've heard about some issues with the Odyssey unless you keep on top of it, but we'll see.

Kinda bummed. The Dyno appointment yesterday got cancelled. I showed up and apparently the Dyno operator got in a car accident over the weekend.

Working with them on a re-schedule and may look at another Dyno in the area as a alternative.

Boooo! Hope the dudes OK, and hope you get something scheduled soon.

Yeah, apparently he is very sore, but will be OK. I'm waiting for them to call me back to re-schedule. If I don't hear from them by the weekend, I'll try some other shops.
