Down pipes installed last Sunday. Wow, I sure am liking the sound of the turbo's. Unfortunately, I wake up the kid in the morning when I go to fire it up for work. So I'll be throwing the stock cat-back on this weekend and see how that combo works.

I will also have to do a bit more adjusting of the DP's to get them in a better spot. They are too close to the frame at the "Y" with where I have them now. Should be a pretty easy tweak.

Overall, they were a bit of a pain to install. The really tough part was getting the O2 sensors out of the old down-pipes. I bought a new set, but @ $400 with my discount, I wanted to be able to return them. Thankfully, I found the sensor tool in the bottom of my tool box and was able to get the original ones out.

Certainly can tell the turbo's spool quicker and it feels more powerful. But I'm not sure how much of the power increase is due to a big temperature drop. It dropped from low 70's to low 40's in a couple of days over last weekend.

WOT downshift from 2-1 or 3-1 roasts the tires and keeps spinning them back into 2nd. Never did that before and even blows through the TC until the truck actually cuts the power vs. just clamping the brakes.

Be careful about fighting through traction-control at your current power level. Traction control has a good chance of smacking you harder then you're expecting. :) Unless you're waiting for a reason to justify a built block (like me) and just don't care about it blowing. :D

Yeah, it was a two-time thing. Completely unexpected as the truck never burnt up the tires from a rolling start before. I'm sure it's the same at your place, raining so I won't be pushing it anyway.

I DO want a new motor from Mr.Brown, but the timing (see $$$) isn't right yet, lol.

Same boat. My excuse is that my motor is currently perfectly functioning. Which is why I have a strong NFG attitude about pushing my truck a little harder. Sooner it breaks, the sooner I can go built. I'm already eyeing a pair of DBB 6266 Precision turbochargers.

I put the stock cat-back on the truck as the wife thought it was too loud. I would start it up in the garage and it wakes the wee one.

It's just too quiet, so I'm going to have to explore some options or just figure out a custom set-up.

The stock cat-back also killed some power, you can tell right off the bottom that it isn't as responsive.

Also threw a check-engine light for the rear O2's, so that means the vibrant extenders didn't do the trick. Maybe I'll try swapping out the insert. I would like to get them to work instead of trying to fix it in the tune. It would allow me to run the stock tune if I had to.

Somebody had one of those for sale on the forum. I thought about it, but like the idea of a nice mellow aftermarket cat-back.

I just have to find it, lol...or make it.

Just change your muffler itself then. Or put the resonator delete pipe in.

Yeah, kind of what I'm thinking. I just want to swap out the mid-pipe for a full 3" piece.

I was thinking about doing the resonator delete, but would still be stuck with smaller diameter pipe in that section.

What insert did you initially put in? Was going to use the medium (middle) size when I get everything to go.

I put in the middle one, but it triggered a P013A yesterday. I reset and will see how long it takes to come back.
Already triggered again today. Truck also feels pretty sluggish.

I guess I'll try changing out the insert for the largest one and see how it goes.

Odd how it never triggered with the MBRP cat-back on.

I would suggest swapping the stock muffler out with the Magnaflow 12579. I’ve ran catless downpipes with stock catback with and without resonator as well as this Magnaflow currently with res delete. IMO it is much better for flow and mellow sound than the stock muffler. No raspy ricer sounds at WOT like with the stock cat back. Cold start up is similar to stock noise levels with downpipes, maybe even a little be quieter since the sound is much deeper and mellow now.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I really appreciate it.

Looks like I will probably go that route, easy and should give me the volume and tone I'm looking for.

I ran a pair of those on my Mustang, so familiar with the volume change.

Edit: Magnaflow mufflers, not that particular model on my Mustang.

Good news! Well, I had a pretty interesting conversation with a Ford drive-line tech. I went to the dealer yesterday to grab a oil filter and the tech happened to be at the parts counter. He saw my truck outside and wanted to check it out.

After some compliments and pointing out his identical truck (when mine was stock) in the parking lot, he asked if there was anything I didn't like about the truck. I told him about the 3-4 or 4-3 shift noise. He brought up the additive right away and I let him know I already added it. He asked how much and I let him know I followed the instructions in the TSB (9-10ml). He found in his experience that it wasn't enough and he added the entire amount (16ml) as you would if you experienced tranny shudder. I thanked him and said I would bring the truck in for warranty if that didn't resolve it. He said he would make sure nothing was "flagged" as long I set the tune back to stock and took the DP's off. Nice guy. I thanked him and headed home.

So, I added the rest of the additive and after a cruise to work and back, I can't get it to make the noise anymore. So I'm crossing my fingers that I won't have to mess with the tranny for a while. I had a chance to take it on the hwy, and so far so good.

Also, ordered up fox 2.0 coil-overs. Pretty good deal IMO, $650 US Brand new.

Crawled under the truck and swapped out the "medium" Vibrant extender plugs for the larger ones. Hoping this will keep the CEL from popping up. I was getting a "slow to respond" (P103A).

Happy Thanksgiving to all the US peeps out there!
