Venting. 2019 F150 3.5 Ecoboost Lariat SE (racing stripes and two tone leather interior) max tow. While towing a Uhaul motorcycle trailer loaded with a 550 lb. motorcycle the wrench light came on 6 hours into an 8 hour trip. After stopping for a quick google search, I continued on to my destination. The truck was over revving when shifting from 1-3 and 7-8 unless it was really babied. This was in the middle of nowhere during a family move so my options were limited. I brought it into the local Ford dealer soon after.

Diagnostics - No scan codes present. Transmission shifts harsh accelerating from 1-3 and 7-8. Transmission fluid level checked low. Fluid was burnt. Friction material found in fluid. Recommend overhauling transmission and valve body.

Eight weeks and $4583.46 later, I have my truck back and if shifts better than it did even when purchased new. My vent is on the known issues of the 10R80 transmission, and being 5.400 miles past the 60,000 mile powertrain warranty. Ford Customer Relation Center Response was here's your case number, CAS-49225975-Y2B0S5, and there's really nothing we can do. Thank you for being a loyal Ford customer.

Thank goodness I purchased a Route 66 extended warranty which covered EVERYTHING except consumables (fluid, filters, taxes, etc). $705.57 out of pocket which included a $20.55 surchage.

So now I have a truck that I love, with 34,000 miles left on an extended warranty with a transmission that totally failed and I don't trust that it will not fail again.

Nice truck, hopefully they put in the newer updated parts. Good that you had the extended warranty. First I’ve heard of them rebuilding one, I usually hear about them R+R with a reman unit.

They

They are known to come underfilled from the factory.
Yeah, a lot of things are known after they fail and you’re outside of warranty. No dipstick transmission. Trust us, we’re professionals. They also know the CDF drum is an issue, that’s why they have a TSB and changes to it.

Oh, there is a dipstick. That's how I knew that mine was low. It is accessed from under the truck and checked when fully warmed up / hot.

Just got word that my truck has the dreaded CDF drum failure. Trucks been shifting hard into reverse the past few weeks. Started shifting weird between 3-6 on a trip last week. 99,900 on the 100k ford esp warranty. Waiting for the official word on how long it’s going to take.

You should go buy a lottery ticket. Hope your driving around with a fresh new trans soon.

You are telling me.

I pushed for a brand new transmission but ford is approving a full rebuild. 2 year/ unlimited miles. I guess I can’t complain.
I would have no issue whatsoever with a rebuild vs new. If done properly, it could very well be as good as the 10r80 could possibly get.
If for some reason a yahoo does the build and blows it, chances are it won't take years and many thousands of miles for a botch to reveal itself.

At least that's how I tell myself these things usually work out.

Similar to a timing/phaser job. They either come back as quiet as new and running better than ever, or..... Uhoh
It certainly doesn't take 2 years or 50,000 miles to figure out something didn't go right with that repair.

My truck knows about phasers, and water pump and hub bearings and sensors. 2 years is worth at least 40k and it will be all but paid for at that point so it’s all good.

I'll play too! My truck has also had phaser and CDF drum failures! Do I trust the new parts? No! Do I still love my truck? Yes!

Does anyone know if the CDF drum bushing failure is more prevalent on the ecoboost trucks or do the coyote guys experience it just as much? I guess I'm asking if the increased torque from the ecoboosts seem to cause it more often.

If you got the latest phasers and CDF drum, you should trust them more than the ones that were replaced, at least. :)
