I have a 2019 with the 2.7 engine, 28,000 miles. I was driving through town about 35mph in 2wd and heard a rattling /grinding noise, thought I ran over something. The noise stopped after a minute, then the 4x4 service message appeared.

I checked with a code reader but no codes stored, still getting the 4x4 wrench message on the screen. I do most of my own repairs, but haven't had to work on this truck yet, so not familiar with it. Hoping someone can point me in the right direction what to look at.

I've still been driving it and now I'm getting some subtle grinding noise when making slow turns occasionally. Not sure if that's related or a different issue. I guess I need to fix the 4x4 issue first anyway.

Most lower end code readers will not read codes from all the modules. A unit that works with Forscan is your best bet. Windows Laptop/PC version is the most powerful, but the Android/Ios versions are good for diagnostic purposes. Windows PC versions will allow you to make changes to different things on your truck like a dealer level scanner. Forscan website shows all the adapters wireless/wired that will work with the program.

Sounds like IWE issue to me but they don’t bring up service 4wd messages. So J would think your next best move is to scan for codes with a better scanner. Happy Hunting!
