I need to buy some new tires for my newly purchased 2012 Ecoboost SCrew 4x4 with 6.5' bed and 3.55 gears. I need some input on what effect larger tires will have on this truck with the Eboos engine. Staying with stock 20" rims and thinking of buying 275/65/20 all terrains. Will the 34" tires hurt the power much? I realize the mpg's will suffer a bit, but truck really needs some taller tires due to it's length (IMO). Looking at either BFG AT KO's or Cooper Discoverer ST Maxx. Some real life experiences would be appreciated. Thanks!
 
I have the AT3's in that size. Plenty of power tuned or not tuned. Go for it.

I have 34" on my truck and they rub. Even with a 2.5" level kit and trimming. Wheels are 20" with 15 offset.

I'm rocking 35/12.50/20 Pro Comps on my 12 supercab and love them!!!

I'm going to run the stock 20" rims. I was thinking the 275/65/20 tire would work with no rubbing or having to trim anything. Will I potentially have issues? Getting close to making a decision. Thanks
 
No issues here on a level. I have those exact tires (Edit:size) and stock 20's.

Having this same dilemma, can't decide between a 285/75/17 (34.1" tall/11.6" wide) or a 295/70/17 (33.5" tall/12" wide) Toyo MT

Thought I've heard the height of a tire hurts gear ratio more than width...is this true?

I'm thinking I should go with the 285/75's due to my 3" rear blocks

Yes it hurts your gear ratio. But the Eco likes low gears. It's rotating mass that really hurts. Plus the extra surface area (width) will also reduce mileage.

Personally I would go with the 285's. But you already knew that ;)

275/65r20 bfg at2's on stock chrome rims here. rancho quick lift 1.5 level and I like the 65's better better with a front level to fill out wheel well, no level the /60's look plenty big. no milage diff noticed between the two, but worse than stock size. power is a non-issue

That'd be sweet thanks! Those are about the same width as the 34/10.5/17 KO2's I was originally looking at.

Look in my album under my profile a few front and side pics, running 275-65-20 Toyo AT... Awesome tire low noise, tows great, MPG will drop 1-2mpg. Performance is the same but I am tuned. 20x9 wheel 0 offset, 2.5 level and bags in rear.
