Vehicle Car Motor vehicle Automotive design Automotive tire

2019 3.5 EB, 15k miles. Replaced air filter 3 months ago, thought it fit properly but just noticed it was not sealed but rather just sitting on the frame, it's now re-installed properly. I drove it about 5k kms. Is there a way to find out if any damage was done i.e. dirt getting into the engine? Didn't seem to affect fuel economy/performance, no unusual engine noise. I am thinking an oil sample assessment may help. Any suggestions are welcome.

Run a white rag on the inside of the intake tube. That will give you an answer.

Pick up an OEM filter if you have the chance.

Thank you, will do.
It shouldnt be a huge huge issue, but if you drive on lots of dirt roads like I do then it would. If that was me, and all the dirt road driving I do I would have changed the oil as soon as I noticed the intake being open and like SRP said run your hand in the piping to see if there’s dust all over it.
