I'm a new member to the forum but have read many, many helpful posts on selecting the Eco-Boost over the Dodge Eco-disel (yes...I considered it...laugh with me, not at me...)

My concern is that I added a Bully Dog GT Tuner to my 2014 King Rang 4x4 ecoboost and I'm not seeing the results that I want. It was on recommendation from a local and very reputable accessory/performance garage. I also added a custom Gibson dual exhaust with "NASCAR" tips (man does that thing rattle windows when I drive up!!!), a throttle body spacer, and cold air intake. I have toyed with the tuner on tow/efficiency, performance, and even switch back to stock to define my differences in gas mileage and overall feel. I get 2-3 mpg better when I use the tuner on performance or tow (but that may be my driving habits). But when I put my foot into the gas pedal, there doesn't seem to be any difference in acceleration.

Question: If I change to another tuner, is there any danger of it affecting my warranty? The Bully-Dog seems to be the safest, but also the least impressive. I'm not interested in racing anyone, but I still want my pony to run when I spur her.

In all honesty, what I the safest yet most effective performance enhancing tuner that i can run in my truck and not void the warranty? I know about warranty protection laws. And that a dealer is required to prove that an aftermarket part caused the damage, but with so many choices out there...I don't want to end up with a wrecked drive-train or blown engine because I was running it too hot.

So, if I'm not wanting to run a <5.0sec flat 0-60mph, then is the Bully Dog a good choice?

Thanks in advance for the opinions and advice, This forum seems to have a really knowledgeable crowd.

Actually bullydog is one of the least safe on the ecoboost. Buy a sct device and use one of the supported vendors on this site, Unleashed, five star, and LET. Any of these tuners will give you a better tune than bullydog and I can gaurantee you will feel the difference between tuned and stock.

Thanks for the reply savage07.

The garage that sold me the Bully Dog said that they liked it because it was legal in all 50 states. And also that Bully Dog wouldn't supply a tune for a stock truck that would tear it up. But after I spoke with the tech at BD the other day, he didn't seem very excited that I had their tuner plugged into an EcoBoost. So I get what you're saying.

Can I use the same wiring and connections that are already installed for the SCT? It looks like a standard HDMI plug, so I'm hoping "yes".

Ya you just buy a sct device from a vendor on this site and it will come with everything you need, the tuner will email you your prefered tunes you order and you will download them onto the device from the computer and then you plug the device to your pickup and load the tune. When you purchase a sct device from one of the vendors I mentioned it will come with 3 custom tunes.

Been running a Bullydog gt for couple years now. Bought it for monitoring engine , trans shifting, tire size for most part. Used the tow/ haul mode a bit. Never did get into the extreme mode. Its been rock steady for me. :D:beer::beer:

SCT or Diablosport device and a 91 or 93 octane custom tune will make a big difference.

Your other mods aren't going to amount to a whole lot of net power increase, but a custom tune might take advantage of the CAI and exhaust.

SCT tuner will come with everything you need for wiring. I know the X4 uses an HDMI, but I wouldn't rely on the two cords being exactly the same or cross compatible, I would just use the cord that comes with the tuner you plan on using.

Thanks Savage07, Neolise and norcal_ecoscrew. All the input is helpful.

@norcal_ecoscrew: I was actaully looking at the Diablosport first, so thanks for throwing a wrench in my indecision. Lol. The Diablosport 93 octane is a relatively new custom tune and they are making big claims. Has anyone had issues with that company or their tune?

No problems with Diablosport that I remember hearing about.

Diablosport is just a platform, so is SCT. They both come with "built in" generic tunes known as canned tunes, and Diablosport is claiming they have the best 93 canned tune. With either of them you have the ability to load custom tunes that are tailored to your liking.

When you buy a SCT or Diablosport device from a tuner you usually get custom tunes included with them. Custom tunes are the way to go IMO, you will get the best performance with them and have a selection from any number of tuners to get custom tunes from later on if you want to try more.

EDIT: I should add that LET is the only custom tuner here that makes tunes for Diablosport devices and SCT, all the others use SCT only.

I just want to add that 5 Star also tunes through the diablosport.

I used to think it was only LET, but someone proved me wrong.

A number of guys I have talked with and used the Diablo felt their "custom tunes" for the Diablo were not as good as SCT's tuners. If you WANT custom tunes, go with the tried & proven SCT device. Many more tuners doing custom tunes available for SCT too.

They now offer custom tunes for bullydog tuners. :D:beer: Sent from my SGH-I747M using Xparent Green Tapatalk 2
Just saw that. On the website it says that the custom tuning software is from SCT. So I wonder if that means it'll have the same capabilities too.

Still doesn't mean those custom tunes are as good as the Custom Tunes for SCT. I currently don't know any tuners who also write tunes for the Bullydog device. And even then, what are the results?

Just like the Diablo custom tunes don't currently seem as good as the custom tunes for the SCT Devices. Even when the Tuner writes custom tunes for both.

This is a case where you do NOT want to be first. Let them PROVE themselves.

About the only "other programmer" worth looking at (if you want custom tunes) is the HP Tuner ... and then you want do some research first.

No such thing. One is the "shark" and the other is "dinner". And it is always the "shark's products and personal" who prevail.
