Automotive tire Motor vehicle Tread Wood Grey

My truck has about 218k miles on it and I’m being cautious with it (having replaced many things already). Yesterday I look under the hood after getting it back from the shop to make sure everything was alright, then I find this, any clues? The passenger side turbo is perfectly fine and barely dirty. Driver side turbo is covered in black soot/dirt.

To me it looks like a small oil leak and dust and dirt is sticking to it.
Maybe start with some engine cleaner and then see if you can tell if it actually is leaking something.

It may be oil seepage since the PCV is connected right in front of the turbo on that side. Basically oil vapors come out of the crank through that tube when the engine is in boost. and its probably condensing before the turbo. I had silicone boost hoses on my Jeep that would sweat oil residue due to the PCV.

The passneger side has no such PCV vent so it is not getting exposed to the oil.
