Do seats heat up on their own?

This is the first chilly weather I've experienced with the 2015 XLT I picked up in May. And it's my first new vehicle with heated seats. It seems they are heating by default, even though I've cycled through the buttons on the dash and turned them all the way up, and turned them all the way down (off).

Are these things "on" by default?

Did you remote start your truck?

It is in the settings menu. Mine turn the AC and heat on depending on the weather

I believe that if the external temp is below X° and you remote start, it will turn on the heater and the heated seats automatically.
Likewise, the AC comes on full blast remote start until you put in the key, then it drops to the prior setting.

You can also modify these settings (I can) depending on model through your settings for the vehicle on the dash display.

Although I don't have the problem of the heated seats turning on when I power on the truck - it would be cool to figure out how to adjust the remote start settings.

Was stuck outside in the rain for half a day - when I got to the truck and turned on those heated seats, life was very good!
