I'm sure this has been posted before but I can't believe how great the $89 Door Detent 3.0 by northlight labs | Now F-150 Doors Open Just Right product is. THANK YOU FORUM MEMBERS FOR RECOMMENDING THEM.
This is a MUST HAVE mod. I can't believe Ford has not done this as standard practice.
I installed mine last night. The driver door was a simple install. The passenger side was a bit if a challenge due to limited access. Eventually I was able to swap out the factory detents following instructions provided.
Instructions recommended tying a string or wire to the old detents while pulling them out. This prevents dropping them accidentally into the door post and it also allows you to properly guide the new ones into position without dropping them.
The driver side took 10 minutes and the passenger side took 20 minutes due to limited access. Once the old detent was removed, tying the wire that was attached to the old one to the new one allowed it to be pulled into place rather easily.
The 2 nuts that attach the detent assy to the door post were loose on both sides. To prevent the new ones from becoming loose I applied a drop of medium hold Blue Loctite to the studs, before threading the nuts.
The end result is perfect.
