I have a 2014 F-150 EB with 230,000 miles on it. It just started to have this weird rattle coming from the front of the engine when at idle. No change in performance to speak of. Just a strange rattle. The last couple weeks it seemed to be getting worse. After a bit of research I decided to change the tensioner (& serpentine belt and a/c belt while I was in there). I checked all the pulleys for excess play and everything seemed normal. Long story short, the rattle is still there. With the hood open, the rattle sounds like its coming from the serpentine area. Water pump possibly? Thoughts?

There's plenty of components behind that timing cover, including the water pump, that can play the rattle song.
Think you could get your hands on a mechanics stethoscope to verify it is internal VS external?

Have you owned it for all 230,000?

I may be able to. Bought it brand new in '15 so this is definitely something new.

Did we have someone tell us about using a broomstick stethoscope?

In this case I don't think the solid conductor is going to be as good as a hollow tool?

2013 3.5 rattle at warm idle

So i am new here and hopefully in the correct spot. Im looking for help on my 2013 f150 fx4 3.5 that has 96kmiles, fresh oil change, 2nd owner, been babied it whole life. It runs, starts, and drives fine but it has a pretty loud rattle on the passenger side. It there at startup but gets a little...

My rattle was a clamp on the exhaust (the cross over piece where 3 cylinders meet the other 3). It was at idle too and I thought it was from the motor till I went under the truck.
