I have a hard time telling the difference even while recording it from the engine bay. Might honestly depend more on the actual intake you have (AFE, AIRAID...etc)

Yes just pop the plastic tubes from the intake off, grab them with your hand and yank them out, put back together and notice a lot more turbo whistle, or at least mine did and all I'm running is a drop in K&N

The purpose, according to an engineer that I know at Ford, is to cut down on the sound from the turbos so that owners won't think they are driving a TT truck. Ford originally wanted this motor to outperform the V8 segment, but not get any criticism about it being TT, including the sound...

And I removed mine immediately, they serve absolutely no purpose... ;)

Since the fins are angled does it make sense that they may help swirl the air and maybe speed up velocity a bit?
