My son says he’s coming over tomorrow to work on this. Waited for some time for him to decide to do this with me. Told him he’d need to get his own mag. Truth is I forgot. He’ll no doubt steal one of my P-Mags. ;)

Looks like fun! @GearHead_1 need to snap a picture of my viper. Want your opinion on if the mount is too high. I’m used to a lower mount on my bolt rifles and this is the first one I’ve personally thrown together. I know you need adequate charge handle clearance but this seems like too much.

In my opinion the height of your scope mount pretty much comes down to being able to clear the rail and what your head is telling you when your cheek is on the stock. You should be able to place your head naturally and not have to work to look through the glass. I have one AR with a rather large front objective on the scope and it needs everything a tall mount can give it to clear the rail. I’ve been back and forth over the years on how large of scope is right for an 5.56. I don’t put “BIG” scopes on them anymore, still do on .308’s. There is a lot that can be read on the distance of the center of the optic to the center of the bore and if your scope could be more effective with a canted or shorter mount, most of this information is very technical and more than I would attempt to type. That said, if yours is comfortable to you and you see well through it’s at the distances you are shooting, don’t sweat it. We wouldn’t even have this discussion if you had a great big piece of glass hanging on the front of it using the same mount. ;)

To be honest it’s very comfortable as is. Compared to my 5.56 the scope is more far forward but I’m assuming this one has slightly better eye relief. On this gun it’s easy to acquire effortlessly at all powers. Guess I’ll just leave it.

My son and I put together his AR this weekend. It was nice spending some time with him I think we both enjoyed it and he learned a lot. I’m no doubt not as patient as I used to be but I tried to fully explain every step to him and let him do much of the work so he can say he built it. He spent quite a bit of time painting the cartouche, it came out nice, not perfect but it was what he was looking for. These aren’t exactly the peices I’d have chosen but he’s happy and it’s his birthday present. The trigger is actually amazing for what is basically an OE trigger (we did use some JP Light Springs and JP Pins). 4.5 lb. pull, very little take up and smooth as silk. I had pushed for him to buy a Velocity drop in but he wanted to keep the cost of this build down. We bobbed the hammer and removed the indent retaining spring. I was impressed and glad to see he didn’t spend another $130 for a drop in trigger. It weighs about 6.5 lbs so it isn’t too heavy. Anyway.. here it is.

I bought a Canik Tp9sfx through Guns Midwest.com yesterday. A guy who I work with has one and it gets a lot of good reviews.

Probably won't be at my FFL for 10-14 days. Does anyone have one?

I haven’t shot one but I’ve not read any bad reviews. Seems to be pretty highly regarded, and I like the looks of the ports and the slide. Kinda like the browning high power, and I’ve always wanted one of those.

I'm always weary of internet buys. After the gun, shipping, and FFL, I end up getting it for $445. I think it is a solid deal for the specs. I'll try to update after I shoot it.

I’ve resorted to buying all my guns online with where I’m located now. All the gun shops are higher than hell so it’s worth it for me.

The Browning HP is a great firearm. I bought one back in the mid-80s and a couple of years ago sent it to Robar in Phoenix for a complete makeover by their High Power Princess. She did an awesome job and it is the HP I always wanted it to be. Expensive, yes, very, but AWESOME!

That’s a couple of hundred rounds of mixed ammo in the target. Shoots like a dream.

I bought my deer hunting rifle from buds guns a couple years ago and my last 3 pistols online. 4 total from 4 different websites. Way cheaper than from stores. I have also bought a couple guns off armslist.

I called on the Canik the other day and the FFL didn't have that model in his database. I do not think they would have beat the online price.

Is this like an AR but polymer? I've never read about an 80%'er?

Yeah, they make 80%’er AR15 lowers in both Aluminum and Polymer. I can’t speak to either as I’ve always started with a normal lower. This company, Polymer 80, makes an AR lower that I’ve done a little reading on. They don’t look too tough but I have no doubt that these pistols are easier. I’ve basically done all the “milling” work, which I did not use a mill to do. Just took my time and did it by Dremel, files, sandpaper etc. It looks really nice and you’d be hard pressed to see that it isn’t factory cut but I’m simply hoping at this point that the guide rod and spring have sufficient operating room. I removed plastic to exactly the lines they suggest but won’t really know until I rack the slide a few times. Don’t get me wrong it isn’t hard to remove more plastic, just don’t want to go any further than is necessary.

I’ve been looking at the Canik’s too, more specifically the TP9SFX . I think I’d like to own one. Don’t think I’ve read a harsh review and relatively speaking they’re fairly inexpensive.

EDIT: Ha! I missed your above post, been looking at the same thing. You probably think I’m crazy. By the way this model doesn’t show up on Gun Genie either. They usually list every model a manufacturer makes even if they’re not in stock. Gun Genie’s tool that shops local re-sellers is a great utility to get an idea of what you should be paying.

Hahaha. All good. I've been looking at them for the last year. Finally decided to buy it. Price was too good. I do not have a 9mm in my safe. So much cheaper than .40. I would like to join a pistol league. I think this would be a good pistol to start with.
