I received the timing "kit" from Ford and thought I would share the contents. It is far from what I consider a complete list for the job, but saved a few hundred dollars over ordering the parts individually.

It does appear that everything I thought would be in the box is included. That said, some of the part numbers are different and a few of them do not pull up on any of the parts sites. The Phasers, Water Pump Gasket and Timing Chain were all just bubble wrapped or in paper or cardboard, not in labeled parts bags... all parts were in a single box with the "Ford Parts" Label showing part no. BL3Z-6D256-C. So, most all of the part no.s I am giving below are what is stamped into the part itself.

Contents:

qty2 - Exhaust PHASER AT4E-6C525-FL, stamped "1 & 2" (look like AT4Z-6C525-D)
qty2 - Intake PHASER AT4E-6C525-FL (looks same as AT4Z-6256-B)
qty1 - Water Pump Gasket BR3E-8507-LA
qty1 - Primary Timing Chain
qty1- Bag containing the following...

qty1 - Front Crank Seall, XW4E-6700-AA
qty1 - Timing Cover Seal? (part no. not labeled)
qty6 - Intake Manifold Gaskets (Green Seals, part no. not labeled)
qty1 - Valve Cover Gasket (part no. not labeled)
qty4 - Bolt, assumed camshaft sprocket/PHASER (part no. not labeled)
qty1 - Bolt, assumed "SE WTR BYP TUB" (part no. not labeled)
qty1 - Gasket/O-RING, assumed HPFP (part no. not labeled)
qty1 - O-RING Brown (part no. not labeled)
qty1 - O-Ring Black (part no. not labeled)

I was hoping to confirm that the parts inside were the most up to date, but I am having trouble doing so between the stamped numbers not pulling up and the mixed bag of seals/gaskets/bolts not having numbers for all of the contents inside.

What do you all think? Are we good to go? My main concern would be that the Phasers in this kit are the latest and greatest revisions from Ford.

Wasn’t there a post regarding a video on the new cam phasers showing the visual differences?
Does the Gen1 even use the Gen2/Gen3 phasers?
I didn't think they did.
Nor did I know that the Gen1 phaser was much of an issue and required multiple redesigns, like the Gen2 phasers have since 2017.

Good call out - I'm pretty sure I'm wrong on this. Sorry.

Well in all fairness syndmax did ask regarding "latest version" of the phasers he received. So....... :)
At the moment, I simply dont know what I dont know. To your point, it is the knowledge of the gen2 phaser redesign that has me wanting to make sure I have what I need. Hopefully @SrpRacing or one of the other first gen guys will get in here and school us!

If I’m not mistaken, It does not. They are slightly different. However the kit you have is correct and is an improved(updated) version still used in engines today.
So, if put on the spot, what would you say is the latest PN?
Any thoughts on the PN stamped in the PHASERS themselves differing from PN in the catalog?

Sorry I was updating my last post, haha. My bad.

The kit you have is the right one. The manufacturing numbers will always be slightly different from the service P/N. Ford has a tendency of not updating P/Ns for vehicles older than 2015. Always best to follow TSBs. Those will have the updated numbers.

Given Ford's track record of "updated parts" not fixing issues, I think I would just install the parts and drive 'em until they clack. A lot of people report it coming back, so no matter what version I have, I am expecting the worst every time I flip the key. Sad but true.

Depending on your mileage you may want to consider replacing oil pump, water pump, thermostat, belt tensioner, both hoses upper & lower, and intake seals. You have to remove it all to do it except the oil pump. You also need the motorcraft sealant torque sequence, stages, and torque needed for timing cover bolts, fuel pump bolts, valve cover bolts, and intake. Just did this job.

Both thermostats?

That's a pretty significant savings vs buying the parts individually. If you're going in there you might as well replace everything. I wish there was a more definitive list, but the best I found is this.

I put together an updated list… I suspect a certain texan may post a link shortly 😉
Sorry for the delay - you looking for this?

Where is the "updated list"? Post #12 seems to have extra items. Thx
Things with a checkmark are what i ordered… you may not need/want…
  • valve covers (but then will need gaskets)
  • oil pump
  • radiator
  • radiator hoses
  • trim clips

If you’re considering this job, i recon you can spot the “extras” I personally didn’t see the logic in removing without replacing… but I have a bad habit of spending a fair bit of the money I save doing work myself on going beyond what most professional mechanic shops and definitely what dealers will recommend and do for you.

Fee free to ask if you have any particular questions
