How much can the trans handle?

As far as modern day rwd ford trannies are concerned.... This is the best one period.. Very reliable! They employ a ton of clutch... Steels are .125 thick.... And most of the parts are GROB... A badass cold rolled steel with excellent heat dissipation properties....clutches are made by dynax... Which will withstand over 800 deg before they sustain heat damage... Thats double that of a conventional paper friction...

Disagree completely - my stock tranny can't handle the heat of downtown ih35 Austin stop and go traffic. Thing starts shifting hard within 20-30 mins from 2-3-4 up and down. Very unimpressed with this tranny especially since it has the tow package.
How hot is it getting....?? Tow package has nothing to do with the transmission

Upgraded tranny cooler? Thought I read something about that.

But surprised it has troubles with 35's when I haven't while towing my trailer through city's. Thought that would have been way more load than bigger tires. Oh and I have 33's on top of that.
Nope... Theres only one cooler

Incorrect See picture - can't send link stupid phone won't do webpages at the moment Try Www.ford.com/resources/ford/general/PDF/towingguides/13flrv&tt_f150.pdf

Edit - I had typed that link and it doesn't appear to work but I just googled 2013 f150 towing package specs and that was the first or second link. It's a PDF from ford for the 2013 year model and what the towing package "535" and max tow get you over the standard setup - one of which is an aux trans cooler. However I remember being told when I was looking to buy the trans cooler was standard so who knows exactly.
all that says is that it is equipped with an aux cooler....not a larger one...

....we did alot of digging on this subject at my dealership...my parts guy only finds one listing regardless of engine , vin etc....and ive never seen a different cooler...i see maybe 20 of these truck a week.....all configurations...theres only one

Yes I do and that is my point exactly. Completely stock truck empty was designed so poorly it can't handle the heat of stop and go traffic. (I know it's at least aggravated by the stop and go because it does it like clock work on my daily commute) They didn't design it well enough to kool itself at a stop???

I may be wrong here, and I will gladly admit that, but heat is your prob on an auto trans and with my trucks issues, will be the problem long before power breaking shafts clutches or other items. Imo Shifting back and forth and pushing the tranny hard with tunes/power mods and stirring up poorly cooled fluid will cause problems first. But like I said I may be wrong and based on your trucks cooling ability you may break internals first.

Like I said before, as far as I know and my experience with ford gauges, they are utterly useless for accurate readings. I have an xl so there is no numerical reading, there is only son space between and h and a c.

Obviously I know it has a trans cooler, because I'm complaining about how poor a job it does. You on the other hand, I had to pull the specs to show you which package it even applies to (and there was a difference)

This post, which I don't respond often for reasons like this, was merely so show the avg reader that blanket statements like this trans is awesome or as tough as the one in the mustang, are dumb. There are trucks, like mine, that have had trans shifting issues since new. In fact there are a LOT on this forum that have trans issues whether it be hard shifting or power application missing completely. If you go changing the system you may have problems; don't follow blanket statements.
These are very good trannies.... But just take the law of averages... When you manufacture 3 million of something... Theres gonna be a few bad apples.... You dont even know that your hard shifts are due to the trans getting hot. Its just an assumption ... You have no data , trouble codes etc... Just a hard shift that can be attributed to many different areas of the transmission...it may be doing exactly what the pcm is telling it to.....

Pretty sure the C6 can handle almost that. I'll let you know in a few years ;)
You have to put some money into a c6 to handle it.... They are very good units but need some revisions to put up with todays power... I have c6 transbrake units in trucks approaching 8s....one guy was shifting at 8k...
