Good morning all, I hope Ya’ll are doing well.
I found this forum looking for info on down pipe installs. Not so much as what they can do for me but the actual install. Ya know, if it is something that can be done in the driveway.
Anyway, I have a 19 F-150 Lariat, a few mods for towing/hauling and a little freer flowing intake and exhaust.
I mostly use the truck for family hauling and running around doing normal truck stuff.
I have no interest in racing or mudding or anything like that. But if I can get it to perform better that is a plus.
Welcome and wow! Nice truck.
Thats gotta be 12k-13k in that trailer no?
Tow that on the regular?
I'm one to suspect that on stock turbos, the "flow-assisting" mods like intakes, downpipes and exhausts don't do too much, as the stock equipment flows well enough to support the max power stock turbos can make. They'll change some sounds and perhaps characteristics of the powerband slightly but nothing game-changing.
In other words, on a stock truck, you still deal with the limiting factors of the turbos and heads; and the stock tuning that keeps everything well below even the limits of those things.
I'm not opposed to any such mods at all, I like me some intake sound & turbo whistle.
Just that there is lower hanging performance fruit... To that end first 2 mods would be a Custom tune and an intercooler.
The trailer is 14K rated, approx 3k empty. The dirt being moved there is only going a few hundred yards from the back to the top of the hill around the shop. If I am towing on the road I don’t load it to capacity.
As far as flow mods, not so much looking for power (granted it’s nice) but looking to move the heat out. An intercooler with piping is in the works and the down pipe is now on the back burner due to what seems like a lot of issues with Cat codes.
Over the last couple of days I have been looking at and setting up the OBDII link MT+ for a temperature screen for the intake and exhaust PIDs.
Pretty good read here, found it looking for cat converter operational and max temp limits.
Knowing Thermal Limits and the basics of how your Ford EcoBoost engine works will allow you to make the best decision when it comes to your next upgrade.
