bought my 2018 f-150 STX. Has 58,000 miles. Sold my f-150 2006, it wouldn't do for towing.

I'm a 100 % disable veteran. I serviced from 1974-1989. in Feb of next year I'll be turning 70.
Being disable I was still able to work. I am a sheet metal journeyman, license plumber, gas fitter, EPA certified for refrigeration, and a boiler maker. Was a mechanical contractor, for two businesses that we owed.
What I'm trying to say is that I'm not a dumb-ass.
But, sometimes I do need a little advise.
Door tag says it has a GVWR is 6500 LB. Is that as the truck stand now?
What can I do to the truck to increase the GVWR?
Any advice you can give a old combat veteran?
I'm all ears.

Welcome to the forum and thank you for your service!
The 6500 lb GVWR is what it is. It's what the truck is designed to haul as it came off the factory assembly line.
Other advice? Take a look around the forum; here is a link to some recommended things to review - Newbie or Oldie - check out these forum links! | F150 Ecoboost Forum

Welcome to the Forum John!

Thank you for your service.

The GVWR is set by the manufacturer. That's what Ford sets as the maximum your truck should carry. Some insurance companies will let you insure for higher GVWR. I know my work used to do this. You can make your truck able to handle the weight better with airbags but technically your not supposed to do it.

Not now but as ordered and equiped new.

Not much with bolt on parts, springs/shocks/brakes, do not replace the trucks backbone, the frame. The frame is the starting point for loading stuff on. Frame capacity depends on wall thickness and wheelbase.

Some naming techniques are not always clear Gross Vehicle Weight Rear includes the empty weigh on the rear axle along with all load carried that adds weight to the frame.

To get an accurate total you will need an empty vehicle scale weight, subtract that from the stickers total GVW and you have the permissible load limit. I'm sure no towing or load hauling expert, I built a sport truck. But I am concerned with weight! KM
