Still trying to figure out what all the smoke in the exhaust is from. Spark plugs look ok, they are dry as a bone, cylinders look ok. I must have burned all the deposits off cylinder 1 when it was having the cylinder head oil burning issue because the top of that piston looks very clean.

check out this pic of one of the cylinders, look how clean that piston is. If I move the camera closer I can read part of the stamping on the top.

I also popped the hot side pipes off, cleaned them and cleaned the blue boots, mainly to get the oil out of there that was left from my stock turbos which were going bad.

Ok, small update, for those of you who saw my rolling coal thread, I returned to stock tune today. It does not blow any smoke at all. Working with Torrie on his tune at the moment so that’s good.

Anyway, the stage 4 turbos on the stock tune run so good…. Truck made 29lb/min on only 5-8 psi. It spiked initially to 11 psi but as rpm went up it lowered boost to keep horsepower at the target amount and at the peak it was making like 5-7 psi with 29 lb/min. Just tells you how much more air volume the stage 4s have. Crazy.

You make me want to upgrade turbos!!! Well, I a relieved that it may be a tuning issue and not something mechanical or internal..... Still wishing the best outcome for ya!

I had a ‘79 Mustang turbo 2.3L 4-speed with a generous 132 hp. I had to look up stats and found: zero-to-sixty times of 9.1 seconds and ran the quarter in 17.4 seconds at 82 mph. ( 1979 Ford Mustang Turbo First Drive: Old School Turbo Power ).
I don’t miss the late ‘70’s at all, car wise.

Just ordered a large magnaflow muffler. We’ll see if that helps my trucks rasp. So then it begs the question, should I ditch the Corsa muffler and put the magnaflow right there and leave the Flowmaster muffler in its place upstream? Or should I put the magnaflow in place of the Flowmaster and leave the Corsa muffler downstream?

I am interested to hear your thoughts on the muffler and to actually hear a video of it

Well, I gotta figure out how I’m gonna do it first, but right now I’m thinking putting the magnaflow in place of the Corsa and then driving it and seeing what it sounds like. I’m going to keep the Corsa muffler of course just in case I want it back on there.

The raptor is straight out the back, and dual even and I’ve heard a raptor exhaust and it’s almost raspy.

So here’s what happened, I can’t remove the Corsa muffler because it has the hanger welded onto it. So if I removed it I’d have no hanger in the middle. So I put the magnaflow where the Flowmaster was. I haven’t driven it yet, I’m about to, but it seems like there’s still some rasp. I think what I’m gonna have to do is get a resonator and put the magnaflow where the Corsa is and the resonator right before the magnaflow.

The exhaust is actually pretty nice. If there is any rasp I can’t hear it. It sounds very good at WOT, at least for a second…..

….and that’s where the tune comes in, so the truck is on Torrie’s 15th or 16th revision already and I put the foot to the floor, she spooled up and sounded good, till about 5500rpm then all boost dropped out and went into limp mode. Got an overboost code. I looked at the log and right when I got the code, the wastegate closed completely. It was around 32% for the beginning of the pull, throwing down 16-17 psi and then it just dropped to fully closed and went all the way up to 19+ psi.

So I cleared the code and tried it again, same thing. Something ain’t right…

All is good all is good. Boost was headed out of bounds and so it hit the limit. It’s adjusted now and it pulls HARD. Spiking to 17psi initially and then falling to 9-10 at redline, it’s feeling like a monster. Hardest it’s pulled so far. It put a big grin on my face.

Raced a cummins diesel yesterday with dual stacks. He was in front of me in the right lane and I was in the left. I gave it some sauce and he was already giving it some sauce. He saw me in the mirror and gave it all the sauce. He was rolling coal. I pulled right past him with no mercy at all.
I chuckled to myself and waved at the guy and he waved back. Funniest part of the whole thing to me was that I was only on 10-11 psi and about 32 lb/min.

Sorry I don’t have a video of the exhaust starting up or anything yet.
Here’s a highway pull from last night.
