I just drove it. Didn’t really notice a difference, then again I have a loud exhaust. I think there is a little bit of a difference but not enough to warrant having it

 

If you actually can get it enabled on an XLT (I have some doubts), you will notice it big time with the windows up, stereo volume down, and from a dead stop you roll into aggressively.

At least you could in my 2018 KingRanch Ecoboost.

I don't notice it in my 2022 KingRanch Powerboost. I need to look and see if it's enabled. I know it doesn't sound anything like the 2018 did.

 

My 2018 Lariat fake engine noise rocks! I would never want to even try to turn it off. I would probably freak out at the regular truck noises if I did turn it off.

 

I turned mine off once, did not like the real noises I heard! Metallic and shrill.
Re-enabled, my lizard brain was content with V8 simulation again.

 

I'm with the Librarian above, I'm fine with the fake engine noise. Initially, I was determined to turn it off, but as I listened to the almost obnoxious noise from the nest of hornets, these little V6's produce, I decided this helped me overlook it. This, along with the Full Race exhaust system given to me by a friend (truly a great guy), I've learned to find the FENG perfectly acceptable.

 

don't do a 2->1 exhaust after the trombone loop. it will hurt power. try and keep the exhausts seperate. dumping straight at the ground in front of the axle is the easiest/fastest/cheapest/lightest weight way to do this

 

Why would it hurt power? The f150 uses a single 3” just fine.

Easy, fast, and simple are great for some applications, some uses. Others may want more control over the sound produced. I have used dumps and find them not to my acceptance and prefer directing all exhaust out away from the vehicle. KM

 

I don’t want to do a dump really because it will be muffler less haha. And, a dump underneath a vehicle usually makes it louder in the cab.

 

Yeah... no. You aren't doing yourself any favors, dumping 2 equal sized pipes into 1 of the same diameter. You need to figure out a dual exit. In fact, I think you're wasting any audio benefit you might gain from the trombone by dumping it into one.

I agree it’s not ideal and no it will not mess up the sound. I had the same exact setup in my 2.7 and it had the signature sound even though after the trombone it y piped into a single. I most likely will get a dual setup.

I didn't say mess up the sound, but I don't believe you're getting everything you can from a sonic perspective vs. a dual exhaust while using the trombone. That's like running a dual exhaust side by side against a single exhaust and say they will sound the same.

Nope, my old truck had no drone. It did before I did the equal length downpipes though, so that change in exhaust sound frequencies somehow got rid of unwanted noise.

 

Welp, here’s the setup!! SPD Alpha Raptor downpipes and a 2021+ OEM ford raptor trombone! Stage 5 turbos arrive tomorrow. Got my work cut out for me this weekend.

 

It looks as though SPD is going to send me their HX Helmholtz muffler and it will be a pre axle dump. I didn’t want that originally, but after seeing some people’s videos of the way it sounds, and taking into consideration the extra exhaust flow I think that’s the way I’m going with this setup.

What is your goal with that muffler?

 

I’m doing the raptor downpipes to the trombone, and then to an SPD performance HX muffler which is dual in, and dual out with an X pipe and it’s gonna be pre-axle dumps.

 

Does the muffler have a secondary chamber/resonator? Something to this effect? The reason I asked earlier in this thread is that to my knowledge these are most often used to squelch drone. If you don't have any drone, why would you?

I have zero experience with these, other than what I have read on the Exploder forum. People were saying they did help with drone, but they weren't loving the sound. Perhaps Helmholtz makes more traditional mufflers, to which I have no knowledge.

 

I am not sure, I think it’s the Helmholtz. It has a resonator up top yeah, but doesn’t affect over all volume of the exhaust. I guess the SPD exhaust could have some drone at certain rpm’s with the axle dump and high flow downpipes so the Helmholtz helps with that.

If you want to dive down the rabbit hole on exhaust design look at some David Vizard stuff. I will take some patience but there are a lot of interesting nuggets to be uncovered. KM

 

I fail to see the benefit of this exhaust system, sound-wise or power gains. I also have had ~50% positive results using CR turbos, but my builds are centered around longevity.

 

This exhaust is hands down the best sounding option for the Ecoboost out there. I’ve had countless CRP turbos and all of them have worked perfectly!

 

The busy weekend has begun. So my exhaust idea of hooking the Corsa up temporarily did not work lol. I got the Raptor downpipes on and broke them in. Right now the exhaust just goes down to the trombone, and then to my y pipe and then just for now I threw a resonator I had laying around on the end of it.

yes yes I know it’s sketchy with wire holding it up and all, but below I’ll show a picture that SPD sent me today.

this is their HX muffler with the Helmholtz to help tone down the drone without reducing volume. It’s a pre axle dump as well. This is going to make the exhaust dual as you @GearHead_1 and @full-race geoff suggested it should be to take advantage of the flow capabilities of the alpha downpipes.

However, this isn’t their Gen 2 muffler. This is a prototype of a setup that will bolt right into the 2021+ raptor trombone. You see, SPD’s trombone they made before was much much longer. Anyone putting raptor downpipes and a trombone on their 2021+ 3.5 f150 had to get the Gen 2 HX muffler from SPd and then add some lengths of pipe between the trombone and the SPD muffler to make it work.

This muffler reaches all the way to the raptor downpipes!

Also I’m digging into the turbos as we speak. Thankfully the bolts came out much easier this time as I made sure not to crank down on them so hard when I out the Turbobay units in.

They are also sending me their trombone also. I won’t be using the ford trombone that I have. The difference between theirs and fords is the ford one is not exactly equal length, causing high rpm rasp. Theirs is perfectly equal length.
