Just creating a new thread to discuss my next build plans after my 2016 2.7 Ecoboost blew up for those who might see this thread for the first time.

Heres a picture of the truck. Just want to put it here so it’s visible on the cover of this thread

I’ve done this enough times to not have that issue. But I swear every time I do it I find a new trick that makes it easier. Simple things like putting a little grease on the black coolant slip joint gasket to make them slide easier when you slide the bell end over top of them.

Couple photos for you guys. Driver side now

CRP Stage 5 on the right. It’s all back together now. Just have to hook up the downpipes, button up the turbo plumbing and all done!

Turbos are installed and truck runs with no leaks! Yay!
Also threw this hot side piping kit from CVF on the truck while I had everything taken apart. This thing is gonna be bad to the bone when it’s all done!!

im amazed how the CRP Stage 5s sound compared to the Turbobay turbos. Stage 5s are much louder. Also, you guys might be wondering about spool. It’s hard to compare because I have the SPD downpipes on now which greatly help spool time, but these stage 5 even with a 50mm turbine spool ridiculously quick. They spool faster than the Turbobay Turbobay’s and just as fast if not faster than the stage 4s (which I had stock downpipes with that setup so it’s not totally fair)

Alright so I decided to, as Anthony said, let her eat a little and go WOT. WOW, just wow. The truck pulled very hard, and the stage 5 turbos spooled instantly.
the spool is faster than the stage 4s were and faster than the Turbobay’s. I’ve never seen a turbo spool this fast.
I believe it’s due to the SPD downpipes. The stock downpipe has four cats! The fact that spool was that quick tells me those stock downpipes were a serious restriction. Cool thing is, I am getting no check engine lights from the SPD alpha cats.

SPD trombone and prototype HX Helmholtz muffler is here! Already installed too and it sounds mean! Very throaty how I like it, reminds me of the Corsa exhaust which is now sitting in the garage. I definitely love it.
Then there’s the WOT and driving around, it sounds sick! That equal length forever is my favorite Ecoboost sound.

Not THAT engine. I agree. (The one that's already getting him to the job and back)

But build a second motor?
Absolutely!
It's his destiny. Matt was born for this.

I wouldn't have known that 5 years ago.
I'll admit that I raised my eyebrows 4,3, or even 2 years ago. But not any longer. I'm now tuning in and looking forward to see his approach with a Gen14 truck and a Gen3 3.5

TBH I'd just get a 5.0 and twin turbo it with an off the shelf kit and then get a good tune for it. A hell of a lot cheaper then building a brand new motor, much better exhaust, less time, and it's going to be way more reliable IMO
Probably, this and a on3 turbo kit.

I agree with you, @boostkingMatt, but you realize the path you are choosing is also a never ending journey. You know this so well already. Speed costs money. How fast ($$$) do you wanna go? Getting it there is one thing, the part of the equation that you can't put a price on, up front, is keeping it there. ;)

Yeah I know, but when 2000+ people are following the journey things are much more affordable. However, we will see what happens, I’m not sure I like the idea of modifying (to the level of built motor) my daily driver, so I might be looking into a race truck body to build up.

RC 4x4 XL and a turbo kit would have a good sized initial cost but will go like stink and be further ahead.

If you can leverage you sponsors and make it work for you. Go for it.

Matt’s differentiator is in the uniqueness.

First with the 2.7 and now the gen3 3.5.

Everyone has seen a Whipple’d Coyote at this point.

I say let the man cook.

I'm not saying I could do it (I'm going to be more conservative with Daily Drivers going forward), but I know Matt can do it.

Agreed on the 5.0 approach being simpler. A Rivian Quad Motor would be faster and simpler still and yet... not interesting and the YT views wouldn't be there.

From a "business" standpoint, many more people have the 3.5 and therefore this would be more relatable content - in theory, more views.

And as we all know, it starts for everyone with "maybe I'll just get a tune for it..."

I got a lot of jabs for racing a 302 back in the 1970's. All my buddies went large but I stayed with the mouse motor, it was especially fun when I hole shot those big block guys and lead them thru the traps! Something satisfying to crank up a small engine to unexpected levels. KM

That's actually a little bit longterm scary to me.
Now for Saturday Night time slips? Sure.

But on my daily, that's like taking up smoking. 😁
It won't kill you fast. And it can be very satisfying. But those lungs definitely collect some garbage and it's a lousy way to go out.

You both have lost me... (which isn't hard).
Are we saying not to run S&B filters?
I thought those were an improvement in filtration over a K&N?

#616 ·
Ah, got it fellas. This is the first truck I haven't run an intake on, but if I did I'd go S&B, so just making sure.
