Just creating a new thread to discuss my next build plans after my 2016 2.7 Ecoboost blew up for those who might see this thread for the first time.

Heres a picture of the truck. Just want to put it here so it’s visible on the cover of this thread

Does anyone know how I could find the black appearance package headlights and taillights? The BAP headlights have black bezels in them as opposed to mine which have chrome ones, even though mine are otherwise almost the same.

#729 ·
For the same headlight, Can't you send yours out to be customized?

#725 ·
I would find a truck that has what you want on it and get the vin then inquire that way.

I already figured most of it out lol. And Gord0 is right, oem BAP headlights are 1090$ a piece. I want oem but I actually am tempted by VLAND units like I had on my 2.7, except I’d get them customized by Precision Retrofits. As far as the grille goes, I already have my eye on the BAP grille, and I’m thinking of painting my own fender vents gloss black.

You're not going to like the price on those headlights and tail lights! Probably going to run around 4k for all 4 corners. You should be able to recoup some of the cost by selling your old ones though. The BAP badges look real nice as well. You'll need to do a camera alignment with FDRS and a mongoose if you want your 360 cameras to work right after replacing the grill. Or a Ford dealer. I don't believe that alignment can be done with Forscan.

BAP is Black Appearance Package that Ford offers on the new trucks. For the old farts like me that was wondering what BAP headlights and BAP grill was. In my time it was you wanted to black out your truck because you didn’t like chrome. It only took a can of black spray paint. I BAPed my truck 6 years ago. I feel younger just saying it that way. Not complaining just having a little fun with the way things are referred to these days. Also I didn’t really use spray paint, I bought my parts in black from the factory. But a lot of people did rattle can parts.

Got this installed. I thought I had enough fluid, I had 2.3 quarts, but it wasn’t pouring out of the hole… Ford’s sheet says it calls for 4.6 pints which is 2.3 quarts. Am I screwed now?

Underfill from the factory isn't unheard of. The new cover might allow more fluid, but you're close enough to make it somewhere. I wouldn't use a gasket, just some RTV.

I agree. Interestingly enough, i cleaned up the oem gasket and stock cover and put those back on. I put 2.5 quarts approximately back in, and I used some of the old fluid and the new fluid I had initially put in. So yeah, when I drained it, it was a bit low. I ordered three new bottles so I will put all new fluid in when that comes.

Ever since I first used a Lubelocker I'll never use another type of gasket again if one of those is available for the application I'm working on.
As mentioned it's not unheard of the rear differential being quite a bit underfilled from the factory so you're probably good since you caught it pretty early.

Yeah, I feel bad putting all that old fluid back in, since it was in an old oil can when I initially drained it, but I’ll change it in a few days with fresh fluid so should be ok.

Well, these showed up from Fairway Ford Parts today. Absolutely awesome and the cutout looks way smaller than it does in person.

Only problem is somehow I missed it and ordered the park sensor holes and park aid (the holes on the sides) and my truck doesn’t have park aid. I have the park sensors though. So unfortunately I have to return these and I need Fairway to send me the other version. Still, not in a big rush as the SPD stuff is not ready yet.

Got a question for you guys. Where can I find Rapid Red Metallic paint?

I see some at Touchupdirect and they have the D4 paint code that my truck is. It’s like two spray cans of red paint, and one can of clear coat. Also they have a kit that has primer too, but I think the bumper pieces are already primered since they come black.

Some body and paint shops, not the repair ones, can put your color in a rattle can. They just need your door paint code. Then you need a can of clear also. I’d never do it this way on body panels but on small pieces it works fine and in my experiences it matched very well. I‘d do it on those bumpers.

In the meantime this stuff came. Oem black appearance package emblems (I painted my original ones but one was partially broken and the paint already chipped a little on the front, so I went with oem painted ones.

also some gloss black tailgate letters

Ok so there’s a hood latch notch on the BAP grille if you noticed, and in order for it not to show I’d have to have a BAP/Tremor hood. That is probably going to be in my list of mods.

Right now I’m trying to figure out if a 2021+ raptor hood will fit the F150. Does anyone know? I’m either doing a raptor hood if it will fit, or the Tremor/BAP hood.

#755 ·
You guys can see the hood latch notch I was talking about that shows since I don’t have a tremor/BAP/platinum hood. I like those hoods a lot more and they even have vents on them, so that mod is on the list now.

i could live with that, looks good

Kinda like my 13 year old grandson. He's missing a front tooth! KM

I can return that grille up to 30 days. I’m going to leave it on for a day or two and see how I feel about it. I like the look of it, but I’ll be honest, I am not getting a different hood.

Enough said. I’ll delete it. If I want to protect my hood, I could run a little bit of clear wrap over that area maybe. Unless any of you have another option?
