Non Swelling LUG NUTS needed

2013 Ford F-150. Upgraded Lug Nut recommendations.

The stock chrome lug nuts swell and the mechanic shop won't rotate the tires without new lug nuts to put back on. Do we have a lug nut recommendation that won't swell?

Google and search have failed me. I don't see anything addressing this issue.

Nothing fancy, functional and hopefully reasonable looking.

DP Accessories "Gorilla" from Amazon. Got them back in 2018 and they still look great. Use an impact on them when rotating. Just make sure you use a 6 pt socket on them.

I got the same brand for my 2014 Escape and my 2019 Rockwood TT. They all had those dumb tin covered lugs on them and they were getting tight on the sockets..

McGard and Gorrila are 2 prominent sources. Amazon lists a bunch of 1 piece lug nuts. All of these are 1/2 the cost or more of dealership replacements. Bought a set of, last year and these have held up well, just need a larger wrench than stock. I have aftermarket wheels and use M15x1.5 2 inch spline nuts on my F150. KM

The OE lug nuts are capped with a stainless steel cover. If water gets under (power wash?) the steel nut inside rusts, swells, and causes trouble.

If beat to heck with an impact driver and/or worn socket a bit bigger than it should be, the cap gets damaged.

I bought Gorilla brand black lug nuts - very happy with them so far.
96641BDX was the part number I bought (bulk pack).

I bought tires through Discount and they include rotations, so I went with what they offered.

Was going to go with the Gorillas as recomended, but glanced at their impact last time I had it in and looked like it was a 12pt?

So I went with their's, which are an odd type with inset splines I'd never seen before (below). About $2/ea (high) but they are true one-piece and there is no marring at all after 2 rotations.

It was actually "Firestone" but they are short staffed and massive turnover....
I figured they could do a tire rotation, alignment, and oil change.
After all, tires and alignment should be free as I bought the tires there. But no it was the proverbial even for that.

I dropped off at 8 (for the appointment ) and no one was there. Finally talked to someone at 10:30 and the one guy who was supposed to be there called in sick... No one opened the store! (See above, )

Long story, but I suffered and injury or I would just do it. And I just got my truck out of there... But now I'm guessing of the oil even got changed and if they used full synthetic!

There is another Firestone not far away. My plan is to get the nuts and try that one next.

And also sorry to be that guy... but I've yet to hear any good things about a Firestone service experience.

Sounds like you have to still pay them for tire rotations?
If so, would you entertain paying someone else?
Like I said, I've had great experiences with Discount.
Not sure if they are franchised or if they all run as well as mine, but they are always on time, always fast, and super professional.

I have had 2 good experiences with our local Firestone franchise. First time when we took wife's Highlander in for brakes. They called back and said we don't need brakes yet. They measured everything and showed there was still substantial life left - the Toyota dealership had said they were overdue for replacement.
Second time was my truck - Truck was in Ford dealership for routine pre-paid oil and filter change and the inspection said rear brakes were needed. I took the truck home, went to Firestone soon after and asked them to check brakes. This time they corroborated Ford's measurements and gave me a quote. I decided to take it back to Ford as I had FordPass points to pay for it all.

Anyway - my local Firestone is a shop I do trust.

I have had 2 good experiences with our local Firestone franchise.
And just like that, balance is restored in the galaxy!

Glad there are good ones.
Franchises can be so inconsistent!. And like any business, the customer experience really depends on the people there.

Remember though - I take donuts when I go there. So maybe there’s a (donut) hole in the balance restored theory?

I'm already on my 2nd set of 2-piece lug nuts. The first were already swelling when I got the truck. Was wondering why everything said it was 21mm, but I needed a 22mm. Eventually even that wouldn't fit. I tried some 1-piece chrome nuts from the river, and they started crusting up after their first winter. Went back to the OEM style ones.

Funny this is the first time I've had that problem with the 2-piece nuts. Usually, the steel cap just falls off. My Cruze just lost one of its caps.

2014 SCREW 3.5 TT Ecoboost FX4, 122,580 miles, 2nd owner since 03/2018 with 47K when bought. Got new tires from Costco last yr and they told me my lug nuts were getting a little stripped. Had all 4 tires replaced & with new lug nuts at $1/each. Now nice and shiny chrome without that old plastic outer lug nut cover. Very happy with them. And knowing if anything goes wrong with them, Costco will take care of it no charge. A little piece of mind is worth it at $1/per.

Any one piece spline drive should work fine. My used truck had Gorillas on it when I bought it. I kept them when I put the Sport wheels on.

I bought a set of internal splined lug nuts for my wife's Edge but did not like the smaller contact of the shoulder on the stock aluminum wheels, they look to have 50% less contact area and sink into the wheel's cone seat. I do use splined lug on my aftermarket wheels but they have more material under the cone seat and little space to use a stock style large acorn nut. KM

I'm a DIYer, and after needing to chisel off the stupid caps from the lugnuts so I could change rotors/pads I decided to get solid ones. I installed "Eisen 14x1.5mm One-Piece Chrome OEM Factory Style Large Lug Nuts" 12 months ago and am very pleased. They are affordable, same size, and haven't rusted despite living in the rust belt. I ALSO bought a 6-point (not 12!) deep 21mm socket so the nuts will neve get rounded. I've also taken to rotating my own wheels because impact wrenches in the hands of auto techs will eventually ruin them and chip the chrome. Plus I know they are properly torqued on.

I have a 2013 Ford F150 FX2 with 186K miles and 20" OEM wheels. I went with the Dorman 611-288 "OE FIX" solid lug nuts. They are a 1 piece carbon steel design vs. the 2 piece stainless veneer OE version. The color is slightly different, but I don't think anyone will really notice except me. For what it's worth, I first bought the Dorman 711-1405 kit with 24 lug nuts in it. The thread and conical angle was correct, but the cone itself was much shorter. I installed one lug nut and just didn't feel confident it would hold up. I then ordered the larger 611-288 nuts which fit perfectly. rockauto.com also has an OE look 2 piece design from PTC (#98245). However, I think the one piece design is best in the long run and should never have issues deforming like the OEM design.
