So when my wife and I went in for the truck there was quite a bit of back and forth on the options.

"Do you really need 4x4?" "Um, yeah. I want clearance if & when it floods."
"Do we really need a four door?" "Michigan Trip with your folks remember?"
"The V8 costs less." "We're getting A-Plan pricing."

But here's the clincher:
"What's the Off Road Package?" "Different suspension and skid plates. It rides a little higher..."


Did I totally lie to my wife about the off road package?Can someone please explain the difference between a regular 4x4 and one with the off road package?

The OEM's often change what is included in an "off-road" package, and any truck can basically optioned up to include the same stuff. Last time I checked it was basically:

- taller tires
- skid plates
- locking diff

any or all of which an FX4 may have been ordered with.

LOL, you will not likely ever use it where you live unless you're going up and down a slippery boat ramp or something....(don't touch it ).

Locker is the best thing ever. i wish i had one. Regular diff means stuck everywhere

Other than boat ramps, when could I use it?

anytime you need more grip. when i test drove an FX4 i used it to take off from a light that had an icy surface.

Basically any time that you are in a situation where one wheel is spinning free and the other isn't doing anything. Say for instance if you pulled off on a soft should with your passenger side wheels in sand or mud and your driver's side wheels were on a firmer surface.....
