New to this forum, and new to the ecoboost any help would be greatly appreciated.
Just bought a 2014 SCREW XLT 4wd 6.5' bed with 93xxx miles on it. truck looked very clean, though it was apparent it was a work truck. The truck ran flawlessly for about a week, then it started to shudder and misfire under heavy acceleration. Check engine light blinks for a bit, then turns solid. Starts and idles fine, normal acceleration is fine, the only time it runs poorly is under heavy acceleration.
Had codes pulled and it had a history of 3 P0302 codes (Cylinder 2 misfire). At first I was sure it was a tranny issue, sounded/felt like it was slipping. But seems to be the misfire. I bought a coil to replace #2, but since it is New Years, only AZ was open, and don't really like their parts for this kind of thing. So I bought 6 plugs (Motocraft) and the coil with the intention that I would move the coil from another cylinder and see if the issue persists, though I do not know if it still #2 or if it moved with the coil to the new cylinder. I have to say, based on the feel, the truck is not simply missing on one cylinder. Though I guess it could be missing on two cylinders now that I messed up one of the boots and may have a faulty coil.
Unfortunately, the plug/removal replacement didn't go well, had two coil boots stick and I tore one of them trying to pull it out, including the spring that is located between the SP and the coil. Not sure if it is needed though. . . . So after messing around with it all day, I am out of daylight and am back to work tomorrow and need the truck this weekend. I put it back together, and the issue remains.
So here are my questions:
1) I read a lot here about drilling the hole and cleaning the CAC - I see some places where it says that this is a pre-2014 issue, is that true? Should I still drill the weep hole?
2) The air filter was extremely dirty! Maybe I need to run some injector cleaner through it? Does this ever actually work? BTW - I did put a fresh air filter in and plan to change the oil soon.
3) I do not have a tuner, but would be interested in a data logger or at least a scan tool and software without breaking the bank. I have an OBD USB link tool, but need to go blue tooth and need software, would like something iOS compatible. What setup do you all recommend?
