just got the call from the dealer, first he said it was fine...no issues...then I told him about this site which I hadn't seen til after I dropped the car off, I figured I was alone with the issue. Now he instantly changes his tune and says that until he receives a service bulletin from Ford on the issue, there is nothing he can do about it, absolute joke

Did Ford not test these seat coolers?

Seems like a big issue quality control missed....I think someone deserves to be fired!

On a 75 degree day, the back of my seat was 115 degrees at the dealership service lane. Service writer was shocked to see that high of temps. Guess what the heat is doing to the seat cover.

I too bought a 2015 F-150 Lariat and have the same seat cooling problem, service manager says until ford issues a fix, theres nothing he can do.

$53,000 and they can't fix it? Great truck other than this.

Several of us have filed a burn complaint with the NHTSA. I think we've waited long enough, and with no comments from Ford, It may be in our best interest to file a burn complaint. Even if you don't have children that ride in the back seat, anyone touching the seat backs could be in danger of being burnt.

Here's what I wrote, feel free to copy and paste.

Front seat back cooling system (TED) is malfunctioning. When seat cooling is selected, after 30 minuets, the back of the front seats reach extreme temperatures, resulting in burning everyone that touches the back of the front seats. I've measure the temperatures, at the top of the map pocket, at over 115 degrees, when ambient temperatures were at 75 degrees. When ambient temperatures rise above 90 degrees, the front seat back temperature can reach up to 150 degrees or more! Please reference F150 owners comments and thermal pictures proving this is a serious issue that needs to be addressed ASAP, at the web address: Reply W/Quote, Copy and Paste web address: http://www.f150ecoboost.net/forum/4...et/forum/42-2015-ford-f150-ecoboost-chat/11403-platinum-seat-cooling-issue.html

As an engineer and self fixer of anything, I really like the idea discussed earlier about the re-routing line for exhaust and the insulation. My big concern here is if there is future seat/part damage or repairs needed that we have just voided the the warranty on $$$$ seats.

I really love this King Ranch truck, but an issue like this is pathetic. The truck is at the Tommy Vaughn Ford dealer today getting the defective radio replaced, horrible Bluetooth connectivity checked, and seats checked out. Already had SAT radio antenna reconnected, jammed rear seat belt, and broken bed cover. Not off to a good start for a one month old $60+ truck. My hopes are not very high. I traded in a perfectly good 12 Lariat for the King Ranch all excited about the new features that are changing the truck world..... Maybe not.

So dealer service call.... And drum roll..... " seats working as normal, yes admittedly not a lot of air, but working"
We have to keep the pressure on Ford. This is unacceptable.

Welcome to the site, Topkeg; thanks for the update on your service visit. Did they address your other concerns during this appointment? What's the current mileage on your truck?

Crystal

Thanks

Crystal,

Thanks for monitoring this site so well. Hopefully you have the inside scoop to keep us posted on what Ford is doing about this, when a TSB comes out etc. My biggest concern, and maybe you can answer this question is: if I add insulating material, re-route exhaust pipe, etc, while waiting for the retro (that may or may not ever happen), what have I done to my warranty on the seats. There a lot more expensive things in this seat other than just the cooling.

But I can't emphasize how disappointing it is to have a luxury truck that the luxury items don't work. When my friends and family told me "don't ever buy a first year vehicle after a major model change" (of which I normally agree), I told them there is absolutely no way Ford will make a mistake on the number one selling/cash cow F150, too risky to not get it right!. Well, maybe I was wrong.

As far as the service visit, I have found Tommy Vaughn to be very professional. 2,000 miles / 1 month old. They fixed my broken radio, checked on my poorly working blue tooth (blue tooth maybe just needed to be reset and not have sunglasses flap hanging down when I talk), and told me my seats were working "normal:confused:"

On removing the seat back cover.... what is the trick on getting the elastic straps lose. Mine, just by feel, are like they are looped around a wire harness that would need to be unplugged to un-loop. Help??

I have a 2015 Platinum and I'm experiencing the same issue, its been in and out of dealership a couple times and they say it functions fine. I'm going to try one more thing and that is to disconnect the heater to the seat to see if that alleviates the extra heating in the lower back/lumbar area, after 5-10 min the lumbar are feels like it actually gets hotter. Frustrating especially since My 2014 Raptor and 2012 Platinum had great cooling on the seats, way to hot in Houston for this not to work properly.

I have been back and forth with Tommy Vaughn ford about my seats as well as the two front fenders don't line up with the front doors and now awaiting specialist tools for them to align doors fenders and cab!

SSM 45274 - 2015 F-150 Lariat/Platinum/King Ranch - Climate Control Seats - Front Seat Backrests Not Cooling

Some 2015 F-150 Lariat/Platinum/King Ranch vehicles equipped with climate controlled seats, may exhibit a lack of cooling from the front seat backrests. Using the Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) tool check for any continuous Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC’s) and attempt to clear them with the IDS first. If any DTC’sreturn then follow the normal diagnostics in Workshop Manual, Section 501-10A. If there are no DTC’s present or no DTC's return and the front seat backrests exhibit a lack of cooling, do not make any further repair attempts. Engineering isaware of this concern and is investigating. Continue to monitor OASIS for future updates.

Bobb9621,

That's interesting. At what level/person did that come from? I want to pass that on to my service manager at Tomball Ford.

I have been in touch with both regional and local service managers and they highly encourage we as owners make an official visit to the dealer to get a seat check done. Even though we know as of now nothing can be done, the dealers are powerless to fix the seat without the proper re-engineered authorization from the factory. Doesn't do them any good to swap out a bad seat for a bad seat and not get reimbursed for it. They need the complaint numbers coming in to have ammunition with the factory.

Your service manager can pull this from the data base by your vin.

There is no fix yet but people need to continue efforts to pressure engineers to come up with a fix so a tsb can be issued.

Hi everyone,

There's been an update to the seat cooling concern, and I wanted to share it with you. As part of Ford’s commitment to quality, we continuously monitor reports from our customers and dealers and are aware of the concern that some 2015 F-150 customers are experiencing with a lack of cooling from the seatback. Our Engineering and Service teams have been working closely with our supplier to develop a solution, which will be available to Ford dealers in September and implemented in production going forward.

This is good to hear as my truck is scheduled for its first service at the end of Sept.

TSB 15-0140 to fix faulty seat design for cooling seats. ALL Lariat, Platinum & KR seats are defective, the extent you feel it is generally determined by the environment in which you live. If your truck was built after September 1st, you might be OK, but not sure. View attachment 40696 View attachment 40696
Wow, it's been issued!!!! This is great!!! Wonder how long it'll take to get the necessary parts in stock.
