2013 F150 3.5 Ecoboost with around 100K miles
Engine overheated. Took to dealer to diagnose and they wanted $6K just to replace the water pump and front timing cover. Long story short… there was no way I could afford that, so I did a bunch of research and found some great videos and decided that I would figure out how to do it myself.
With all my research I learned about the common cold start rattle / timing chain stretch / cam phaser issues that these engines seem to have…
My truck has not experienced any of these issues/symptoms at all (at least yet anyway). I’m wondering if I should just go ahead and do the timing component tsb preemptively as if I was experiencing the issues since I’m going to be in that deep anyway. Especially since I bought the Melling high flow oil pump and would really like to get that put in too.
What would you do? Go ahead and do the timing job? Or leave it be since I’m not experiencing any of the symptoms yet? I would really hate to have have to go this deep again… so I’m leaning towards just doing it.
Also, are the cam phasers and/or timing chain that are included in the BL3Z-6D256-C kit actually upgraded parts from Ford? Or are they just the same parts that were originally put in the truck at the factory?
