My wife and I just returned from a pro BBQ competition in Lanexa, VA. We had the truck LOADED with camping supplies, cooking supplies, a 300 lb smoker, and about 150 lbs worth of meat on ice. We were also towing our new 35' travel trailer that weighs about 7500 loaded. I pumped up the airbags to 50 lbs. I am using an E-qual-izer WD hitch with four-point friction sway control.

We stopped on the way to the event to weigh the entire setup. Gross weight of the whole setup was 14,220. The front axle was 3300, rear axle 4280, 7580 total putting me 230 lbs over GVWR. The trailer weighed 6640 but we didn't unhook the hitch to get a tongue weight.

The truck towed fantastic. I am using an LET 93 tow tune. Temps ran about 194 and the IC temp was always about 1.5 degrees cooler than ambient. There was a small amount of sway in the wind, but none from passing trucks. We ran about 65 mph and got 9.8 mpg. I did increase the rear tire pressure to 40 psi (stupid P tires), but the weight in the bed was the real culprit for the sway.

All in all I was impressed but wouldn't make this a regular practice. Luckily we only do about four BBQ comps a year.

Oh, on the way home, 6 miles from our trailer storage lot, we got a low tire pressure warning. I have included a picture of the damage. It is no fun having to unhook a trailer to change a tire, but fortunately we were able to find a gas station lot to work in. I must say, the TPMS saved our bacon and the Ford jack setup was pretty sufficient. I'm carrying a floor jack from now on though.

Finally, we ended up finishing 10th overall out of 42 teams, against some nationally ranked teams. We placed 8th in chicken, 14th in ribs, 4th in pork, and 19th in brisket.
