Quality Control - take the truck back?

Hey guys,
Picked up my brand new 2013 F150 Supercrew Ecoboost yesterday. When I picked it up, the dealer and I were checking it out and as he got in on the passenger side and closed the door, the truck shuddered and a huge booming sound almost like the tail gate had fallen down showed up. The big Kahuna boss man was there with my sales man, and he heard it to. They located it coming from the roof above the rear passenger seat, right side. They said it may be ford forgot the roof insulation! I am taking the truck back Monday for them to look at. Another thing wrong is the switch bank on the left side of the steering wheel needs replaced. This truck came from a dealer in Cheyenne to my dealer. My question is, should I say take this truck back and get me a new one that works? Or should I hang tough and let the dealer try and figure out what is wrong? I don't think a 50,000 dollar truck should have these kind of problems. Anyone else experience this kind of quality control issues? Am I being too picky? I need some opinions before I see the dealer on Monday. Thanks!

P.S. I had already signed the interest free deal when this happened...grrr

I would ask for an exchange.
Sounds to me like you got a truck that may have been broken into and damaged or maybe even been in accident. I'd say I don't want this truck. Get me a new one.
Good old lemon law on your side. You have three days to take it back and cancel or exchange. I would exchange it for a new one. If their not willing to exchange then I would ask to return it they can say no.
If have had the truck since Saturday, no problem exchanging it. I am somewhat upset with this, so I called my salesman to leave a voice mail to give him a heads up. He picked up live and listened to my concerns. He said there is no problem exchanging the truck for another one if I so desire. He went on to say he would like to have opportunity to make the truck right, and then if I am still unhappy with it, he would gladly exchange it. He said his main concern was to make sure that I was happy with the truck, no reservations. If that takes getting a new truck, so be it. I mentioned I would just leave the truck in the garage until Monday, and he said go drive the truck, use the heck out of it if I want, and bring it back, and he would still exchange it. Now that is customer service! I would still like to have some more opinions from you guys - I think this forum is great, I have already learned a lot. So tell me what you think! By the way, my faith in the legendary Ford reputations is restored, I was having my doubts there for awhile. They back up their products!

I think your idea to leave the truck parked is probably the way to go. I don't usually trust salesman. Him saying go ahead and drive it, and dont worry we will still let you exchange it is a long way from them actually exchanging it. Unless they put it in writing I would stick to your guns about a replacement truck immediately.

Keep us posted on what happens.

Do they have the same truck, color and options there? Can they get you the same truck? If so then I would highly suggest taking it back. Who really knows if that's all that is wrong. It could have been that " end of shift " truck and the workers just tossed it all in and finished. If it was me I would take it Monday park it on the lot and tell the sales person to get a different one. That's just me. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
I agre with SPPD. Don't drive it. Take it back and get a different truck. I would be afraid that there is more wrong with this truck than what you have already seen. Something just doesn't seem right. I wouldn't let them try to fix this one and make you happy. Ford needs to know about this.
I would agree, take it back and pick out a new truck. Once they process that paperwork thing get much more difficult. Not to mention that in the back of your mind you will always look at the truck with a negative view. And don't take the sales persons word for squat, oral contracts are pretty difficult if not impossible to prove in a court of law.

AND NEEDLESS TO SAY.......TEST DRIVE THE TRUCK YOU CHOOSE BEFORE YOU SIGN ANYTHING!!!!!!!
Exchange! Same kinda story for me on a Ranger a number of years ago. Had serious electrical issues b/f I got off the lot on the test drive. The radio was cutting on and off by itself. The hazards started blinking. Freaked me out. The salesman tried to talk me into signing and giving me an extended warranty at no addition charge. I said no way. Left that dealer and went to another. Till this day I still think Casper was messing with me.
Thanks for all the help guys - I am going to check the build date on the truck - you may be right, it may be a Fri afternoon truck or something similar. I will also tell the dealer about your posts - I am printing them out and taking them with. They will have to look for a truck - this one came in from Cheyenne, WY, about 200 miles away. Unfortunately, they do not have a truck on the lot that fits my needs. Salesman says it may take a week or so to find one and get it here. "The ox is slow...but the earth is patient..."
I took the truck back today - dealer had no problem. Now the search begins...The dealer suggested when they find one, that I go along and test drive it right there on the spot before bringing it home - not a bad idea. Feel a little bad about taking the truck back, but I think for 50 grand, I have the right to be a little picky.

I think ya did the right thing. For $50,000 you sure don't need to start out with problems. You might have the dealer order you a new truck right from the factory with everything you want on it. Would probably take a couple of months to get it but, you would know that it was "built for you".
You made the right choice! It may be disappointing right now, but the piece of mind that will come from a truck that has no issues when new will be much better.

Keep us posted!

Thanks for the notes guys! Its good to know I was not alone in thinking the truck needed to go back. The dealer has the truck at a local body shop right now, they think there are some spacers/insulation that came unglued just above the right rear passenger seat. In the meantime - the good... and the bad... Kurt (sales guy) found another truck. It is a max tow, Lariat, leather, sunroof, basically pretty well loaded. The big feature is the Platinum White Tri-Coat Paint. Will cost a little more - but to me, absolutely beautiful! I will post some pics when we get it. The Bad is it is in Gillette, WY, about 250 miles from here - we have to go get it. Ah well - Road Trip!:)

Whoa! That is a sweet ride - Now you did it - I can't wait to go get it. Thanks for the pic.
I think that they need to absorb the additional cost for your inconvenience lol!

I hope this makes it right in your mind and can't wait to hear your impressions of a properly built EcoBeast.

For my inconvenience, I tried t talk them into a free door prize - nothing big, maybe a GT 500...Dealers are so cheap these days...sigh! I am, after all a professional whiner - people will pay me to go away!
