Yes, you guys are fine, I’m just enjoying watching the conversation. It seems to me there’s a lot of controversy on what gear ratio is good? I rarely pull a trailer and when I do it’s a 8’x10’ little single axle trailer. So I don’t care about towing, I’m more into acceleration... so what’s the best ratio for that? 3.55?

4.10 would give the best acceleration

I wouldn't say there is a lot of controversy, but rather there is no single answer that is correct for every situation or every person. As is true for almost everything .

There is more to rear end ratios than "numerically higher is more gooder". This is all rule of thumb.

It's become more irrelevant with 6-10 speed trannies. Back when it was 3 or 4 speed it was a bigger deal.

Hence why I run 4.88s on my Scout with a 4 speed manual.

I will say that using fuzzy recollection, I did 120 down the highway in my ‘13 at just under 2,000rpm. If I was a little dumber, I could have done more.

with the 3.15 and a tune in 87, I can burn it out of first and chirp it into 2nd.
I wish I had the 3.55s instead.

Well, as soon as my truck gets back from the auto body shop I will see what the ratio is...

The reason I'm going to 3.73... 3.31s just don't cut the mustard.

I know I wouldn’t like 3.31 with my 6 speed and would not have 3.15 at all unless I could afford to buy a new Limited that I didn’t tow or hoon with. My 3.55 allow really good acceleration even towing my 8000+# camper. Given that, I would still rather have 3.73 for towing with the 6 speed. I could probly be more comfy towing at 64 mph without locking out 6th on flat roads.

Just imagine this, back in 1980 gas crunch International put 2.72's on V8 304/345 engines with 3 speed auto's... Talk about being a dog...

What sucks for me is I don't have a tow package truck so I don't have the select shift trans to lock out gears. I just get Tow/haul which usually keeps it out of 6th.

Really?? I would have thought something simple like gear lock out buttons would be standard on all f150's

What year is it? 09-14 max tow pkg trucks had 3.73s. HDPP trucks had 4.10s. If it's not a max tow but just a standard tow pkg likely 3.55s.

In 15+ they dropped the ratio 1 size for max tow to 3.55s I believe.

It’s a 2016. It has the fancy trailer back up knob, selecshift, and trailer status
