I have a 2013 supercab 4X4. I noticed the following in the owner's manual:
"Note: Your vehicle may be equipped with a frontair dam that can
becomedamaged (due to reduced ground clearance) when taking your
vehicle off-road.This air dam can be taken off by removing two bolts.
For vehicles equipped with a 3.5L Ecoboost™ engine:
Yourvehicle is equipped with an underbody transmission shield and
bracketsthat may become damaged (due to reduced ground clearance)
whentaking your vehicle off-road. Remove the shield by disengaging the
fastenersat each corner of the shield. Then, remove the shield rear
bracketsby removing the bracket to frame bolts, or have your authorized
dealer perform thework for you."
While the front air dam is easy to remove, it would be a pain in the butt to remove the transmission shield every time I get a call from my buddy to go out fishing farm ponds. The front air dam appears to be there to improve highway aero dynamics it also has some baffles that direct air to the turbo intercooler. The transmission shield appears to have no purpose other than aero dynamics and is certainly not designed to provide any significant underbody protection. I talked with the dealership and all I got was mush mouthed BS. Did not even know that the verbaige was in the owners manual. Anyone have any more insight?
