Ok guys, I had a few too many beers the other night and decided to get in my new 2017 xlt screw and enjoy the great "new truck" smell. I then proceeded to spill nearly a whole bottle of beer in the drives seat next to the center console. (Don't EVER put an open beer IN your pocket, what a silly and dumb mistake!!!)

Now it stinks like beer and yeast. I got 80% of the smell out using a Citrus Magic Pet & Upholstery Oder Eliminator, along with putting some Baking Soda on the carpet and letting it sit with the windows down.

But there's still a funk in there. Its in the seat and on the carpet under the seat.

Should I

1. Buy a new seat cushion and carpet
2. Figure out how to remove the seat and clean the cushion and shampoo the carpet underneath it
3. Use some kind of ozone machine
4. Take it to a professional detailing service
5. Use charcoal
6. Anything else?

I'm hoping I didn't just ruin (the great fresh smell) of my new truck. Thanks for any help

Lastly, for the future, does anyone recommend any good 100% waterproof seat covers?

You should not need to replace the seat cushion. I would venture that removing the driver's seat and using a good carpet cleaner would make a world of difference. You need to get the cushion and the carpet both wet, and then remove all the liquid.

The bissel (?) Spot Bot is the choice of many detailers for interior jobs. I have a regular Hoover carpet cleaner for my house, the hose attachment works pretty well. I often go back over the area with the shop vac to remove the last bit of moisture.

LOL I really wasnt driving, I didn't even have my keys, I just used the door combo to get in (somehow I remembered that). Really though, a friend was oogling over my truck and asked me to show it to her, so trying to be the smooth a slick guy I imagine myself to be, I proceeded to escort her into the truck, and then spill my beer everywhere. Lol she left laughing (at me).

Well, I have no answer for you. But, I do give you Kudos for being honest and getting on a public forum looking for advice.

I won't call you a dumbass because I've done plenty of dumbass stunts in the past and survived.

If you're lucky, that smell will never leave and always remind you of what you had done. Much like the smell in the rear seat of my 55' Chevy. Good luck and Cheers!

I read all of this, and was having a bit of a laugh, when i glanced over at your name and you have an official title of "rookie" than i had a really good laugh.


When i first bought my 2015 Lariat, I took it out to the cabin of my friend, and the salesman that sold it to me. We had a big fire by the lake, far too many drinks, and we used my truck as the stereo all night, all the windows open, couple doors open, sunroof, and rear slider, so we could get as much sound out of it as possible.

The next morning when i got into my truck, the smell of campfire inside of it was so strong, I almost cried. Luckily it didn't last long, but i was sure worried!

This is hilarious! But most of us have done some pretty dumb stuff when intoxicated, and even more so when girls are involved, so you get a pass.

Anyway, for sure you need to remove the seat and clean under it. And don't be afraid to use generous amounts of cleaner (after testing that it doesn't stain your seats or carpet). I dealt with a similar smell problem when we discovered a cat had spent 10 days peeing in a corner of our dining room carpet while we were on vacation. There was so much piss it had gone deep into the pad and probably the sub-floor. First I tried an oxy based pet carpet cleaner, which did little. I next rented a steam cleaner and went over the entire room about 10 times, which helped, but the smell was still pretty strong. In the end I got a gallon of enzyme cleaner and literally dumped the whole thing on the affected area. For the first 3 days the smell got increasingly worse, to the point of being overpowering, but as it dried the smell eventually went away after about a week. After that you could put your nose to the carpet and not smell a thing.

I'm not sure that enzymes work the same way on beer as they do on cat urine, but it might be worth some research and trying.

When I've had bad spills in vehicles over the years... Beer, puke, whatever...... I have just used those carpet cleaner products in a can that you spray, use the scrubber attached to the can, let dry, vacuum up. A couple of times, it did get under the seat, so the seat had to come out to clean it..

Hard to do when it's your parents car and you still live at home! Don't ask! But, it was a looong time ago and the folks took the other car for the day! (this was back in the early 80's and I was a teenager, so there is your time frame..)

In the end, never got busted and it always cleaned up! Wow, brings back a lot of memories!
