I am toying with trading in the Ecoboost. I have one regret since shortly after buying it and that has to do with getting stuck in a tiny bit if sand dragging the toy hauler so I'm looking at a 4 wheel drive version of my lil red truck. Don't get me wrong, I don't 4 wheel in mine but the places I take the RZR often have sandy roads and while its ok while I'm moving, if I stop and try to reverse direction for whatever reason, its time for a tow. My point is, I am looking at a 4:10 gear ratio that is listed as an option on the 2013 f-150 but so far haven't seen any on the internet searching dealer inventories. Has anyone seen one of the albatrosses? I'm thinking gears that low would revolutionize dragging the trailer up 12,000 ft mountain passes.

FX4 use to have the 4.30 option when checking max tow package. But 3.73 is more than enough with the ecoboost plus you can get it with electric locking rear diff. It's a amazing combo that I have come to really value when towing on and off road.

I agree with KingBoost, the 3.73 with locking rear differential is more than enough (it's also what I have). Coupled with the 6 speed tranny, your first 3 gears are torque multiplying gears, in first gear it's the equivalent of having about a 5:10 gear ratio. I've had mine in north padre beach sand, salt water marsh, and thick mud and never been worried about coming out on the other side.

Well, I dove off into a 4X4 EB yesterday. Basically its a replacement for what I had equipment wise with the addition of the 4 wheel drive, rear camera and a few other doodads. We woke up to 6 inches of snow this morning so of course we had to go for a drive.

What rear end did you go with? When I ordered my FX4 I had the option of getting a 4.10 but I didn't think it was necessary, especially since it did not increase towing capacity.
