I've done a lot of research and found that someone custom made their own exhaust with "true duals". It sounded sick. Although, he had an X-Pipe installed which takes away some of the "true dual" aspect. I've wanted to go to a custom exhaust shop to have mine done with true duals and not have a cross-over at all. I've not gotten around to this yet.

My idea was to purchase the Stainless Works down-pipe which has a y-pipe connector that is removable. This would give me a good base to start with since you can remove the Y-Pipe and it would be 2 separate down pipes from the turbo's and the outlets would end up in the perfect spot to start a custom exhaust. I would then have the exhaust shop make a true dual exhaust working from the existing SW's downpipes and into 2 separate resonators, 2 muffler and out 2 tail-pipes and never cross over.

I watched all of his clips. Sounds no different than single 3" into dual 2.5".

 

That's because it's not a true divorced exhaust. He has an x-pipe before the mufflers that cross the exhaust paths. This gives it a different tone than if he had kept both banks completely separate.

I agree that a lot of these ecoboost exhausts sound similar, but a true dual divorced exhaust would sound different. No one has done it yet that's on the forums from what I've researched. I am hoping to be the first and provide pictures and the best sound clips possible. But this is most likely not in the near future. It might be a year or so from now. We will see.

 

Problem with "sound clips" they don't exactly sound like real life.

Every sound clip I've heard, sounds basically the same ... because they are all V6 turbos.

The biggest difference I hear between different exhaust systems for the Ecoboost is the loudness and turbo whine... the less restrictive, the louder they sound.

But they ALL have a very similar sound, that makes me recognize it as an Ecoboost.

I will add, everything I have heard was a 3.5 at this point.

 

You're not going to have the fun audio differences with a turbo motor that you would with an N/A motor with true dual exhaust.
The turbos chop up the exhaust pulses. You're also not going to have near the scavenging benefits from a properly placed X pipe.

 

That clip sounds somewhat like my V6 mustang, though not quite as deep. It has shorties, x-pipe and flowmasters.

 

I'm planning to go full custom exhaust. I want something different like a true dual set-up without cats. I really love the way this exhaust set-up is ran. Looks like quality work.

From a performance point of view, I agree with you. Everything I have seen and read about X-Pipes over the 20-30 years they have been used, they help with low-end torque yet maintain max HP. X-pipes (and the original H-pipes since V8s) also tend to mellow the sound by cancelling the exhaust pulses.

As I understand, the OP wants "true duals" for sound - not max performance. Or he would be looking to add an X-Pipe.

Also, for the majority of the mods people have here, a single 3" is more than adequate. Going too larger seems only to increase loudness (and some complain they lost a little bottom end torque but gained a little top end HP).

 

From what I understood, the firing order of these V6's aren't really effected by an X-pipe? That's why you can have a complete divorced setup without any ill effects? Like the mustang V6's and their firing order.

 

I'm going for sound and max performance. I have seen a TT Silverado with exhaust ran out the front bumper. A turbo motor don't need any back pressure from what i understand.

 

One thing that does affect the sound is manually shifting vs letting the auto do it. (Especially part-throttle driving).

The auto tends to upshift very quickly to keep the rpms low and gives the Ecoboost a bit of a "diesel 6" sound.

But, if you have Select Shift, and hold the gear longer before upshifting, the engine does sound different. More sports car like.

What would make this truck sound better, would be a standard transmission (which is not available on this truck).

 

I have true duals on my 19 f150 limited which has highoutput 3.5 ecoboost and raptor exhaust setup deleted resonator with straight 3 inch pipes then up to two flowfx flowmaster 3 inch mufflers true duals it gets really rowdy and raspy at high rims so I'm going to stick an x pipe in and mellow it out a bit to get the pressure equalized as well. It sends exhaust at idle 3 foot from passenger shorter pipe and 1.5 foot of exhaust air from driver side hoping the x pipe will equalize the pressure for both sides and get rid of the occasional popping when ready getting in the pedal I will take a video of it before I out the x pipe and after if anyone replies to this. Still sounds like an exotic car and then in manual mode it sounds like a mini super duty at higher rpms 🤣
