The BMW forums are littered with wastegate rattle post.
They have one Mickey Mouse fix,
You get a long spring and attach it to the arm then attach the other end to something on your vehicle lol

This Video isn't great but at the very beginning you can hear the sound, same as ours

Couple things...

He's definitely high.
I don't usually wear my sunglasses under the truck, I may try it though.
He gets every mile out of his tires.
Do you attach the other end of the spring to the rear bumper?

I’ll be honest since this issue didn’t pertain to my ‘14 I’m ignorant on the issue.

Correct me if my train of thought is mistaken but if there’s no damage done by the rattle I’d opt to just leave everything as was manufactured versus some tech at a dealership replacing turbos for no reason.

Is there some risk of damage due to improper turbo speeds

I kind of feel the same way that's why I'm going to try to wait as long as I can before I do take it in to get it documented.

Apparently if it gets bad enough though the internal wastegate flap won't seal correctly and the truck will start throwing underboost codes

So this is interesting, notice the marks underneath the actuator arm on my driver side turbo, which is the one that makes the sound, and no marks underneath the actuator on my passenger side Turbo.
I'm wondering if it's hitting there when I give it throttle

Probably not even actually scrape marks

Ok you got my attention now (for real). The marks would have me a bit concerned about the alignment or tolerance (lack of) in the driver wastegate assembly

I have a feeling ford will probably just do a programming update to try to fix it when I bring it in. Which would be awesome if that worked but...

I kind of rubbed where those marks are with my finger and it feels smooth not like something has been scraping on there but I need to get a closer look, maybe pull the tire off and have someone blip the throttle while I feel around there

Or get someone small up in there and have a look see. I feel like there is a growing market for a midget automotive diagnostic company.

Alright just had my buddy blip the throttle about 20 times, it doesn't seem like anything it scraping or touching but all my sounds are definitely the wastegate actuator.
Of course I can't really test it when leaving from a stop but positive that's same thing.

Start up rattle and rattle when blipping the throttle are both totally gone when I apply pressure to the actuator linkage arm thingy

So exactly what are you saying? :)

You know what I'd do?

Since the truck runs just fine with your finger on it.......

I just had like 5 smart alec things run through my mind

Anyways, so how can you attach or stick something there that simulates your finger?
I mean, you didn't have to press hard or anything, right?

Get clever. The truck runs perfect. The sound is the killjoy. Quiet it!

I artificially "quieted" my truck on the inside. In fact, didn't I really just cover everything with something that "presses" on it? Pretty accurate, in fact. Nothing can vibrate or rattle because everything is touched by butyl rubber.

See? There's obviously more than one way to skin a cat.

But I kinda hope there's a unique trick devised by YOU for your truck that works as smooth as......... Silk. :)

(spring pulls. You pushed? How can you push, softly. Or as solfly as you pushed)

Maybe you can rent a tiny lady of the night from an escort service, but put her to work in a different way than she thought. Anything you want for $40, right?

Seems to me like a dense material (similar to dynamat, but purpose-built for high temp situations) would remedy this issue. Just something to absorb some of the vibrations that will remain in place. Even something like a durable rubber hand / O-ring with very little tension. At that point it's all about just finding the correct material that can withstand the environment.

Seems like that would work.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to avoid the dealership at this point so I'll be working on something.

So I drove around Anaheim this week on a three day vacation. The weather was so nice that I was cruising with all the windows open. I noticed that my rattle will continue with very slight throttle in to second gear. And my hotel had covered parking with a wall next to my spot. It was LOUD in the morning! My wife commented! I'm going spring shopping! haha
