I’ve never cared for the jump seat and mines probably only been sat in 3 times. I’ve always wanted to do the console swap but just didn’t think it was worth doing. Recently I see someone 3D prints some filler panels and it got me to thinking maybe it could be worth it. So it begins.

I know this looks bad but the good news is everything is here I need.
The wrecking yard let me remove everything myself. Quoted $200.
I grab my tools and went to work. Put everything on a cart and head to the cashier. That’s when I get told he quoted console only, no electronic parts. If you want the shifter it’s another $125. The shifter chrome was peeling and I wasn’t sure I could do that part of the swap so I gave that back.

As of now the jump seat is out and I’m cleaning the console.

On my 2012 XLT, the jumpseat didn't get used that often, but when it did? 🤩

Bought the truck for college football travel when our youngest went off to college. So, long travel often, and at some point either a George Strait or Kenny Chesney tune would play. They both could spur her to unbuckle her seatbelt, lift that drink holder/seat-back, and scoot over in girlfriend mode. 😁

Still have the truck.
One of the many reasons I haven't parted with it.
Lots of cherished memories crisscrossing the country with that ole truck.

Oh man I get what you mean about having a bench seat. I’ve had 15 cars in my driving years and every one had a console but two. My 77 Ranchero and previous 99 F150. The Ranchero definitely got the close up time. That was my main driver when I met my wife and you know how us guys were when we were young pups on the prowl.

As you might remember I keep saying I want a new truck. I told the wife that a Lariat will have a floor console and wondered if she was good with that. Her response was I just want you to have what you want, you deserve it. I just didn’t think it was going to be this truck I was going to cut off the girlfriend mode.

No use for the jump seat either, being a cheap but practical OF the empty space is now used with either a 48 quart cooler,

or more often a 54 quart storage box BIG dang glovebox! KM

My first issue. The driver side console trim is different than the original trim. I don’t know what the little vent thing is but the console one is bigger and turned 90 deg I had to cut about 1/2 inch off to make room for the shifter rubber boot. Also you loose a tab that the speedo trim fits in, leaving a little loose and not a perfect fit. Not real noticeable. The console trim is on the grass.

I think the vent temp sensor goes into the little vented section. Are you keeping the column shifter. Either way it will be a nice change.

Today I put the console on the original jump seat floor mount. The mounting holes don’t line up. So technically you could remove this from the donor truck but you would have to remove seats and possibly the carpet to get this monster bracket out. I’m going to drill and tap my original one. Pics show the different location and bolt size. The bracket pics was from online. This is the only thing different between the two brackets.

There is a front bracket that mounts to the floor. I chose not to attach it to the floor because I didn’t want to cut a section of my carpet out to mount it. Also I couldn’t verify it, but the mount uses rivi nuts on the floor. I couldn’t see if those were there as the carpet was covering it. But there was tape over the holes.

I did mount the bracket to the console because it holds it up so it aligns to the dash better.

Honestly the console is rock solid just sitting on the floor bracket and I haven’t bolted it on yet.

You can see the rivi nut

One big thing for me to do this swap was I hoped to get the a/c to vent through the console.

You can’t actually do it correctly. The a/c plenums are different. With the console trucks it has an actual connection with a flapper door built in it. Non console trucks only have a connection to the vents under the seat.

A person could cheat if you could cut into the floor vent and make some kind of connection to the console air input. But then you would have to put your a/c selection on face and feet for it to blow through.

I’ll have to think this one out. I did grab the blue vent tube. The yellow circle is the same for both trucks.

The console trucks have a filler panel that matches the console and has the Microsoft Sync badge on it. It looks like a door but it snaps into place with the same clips the rest of the trim uses. Our non console trucks don’t have the holes that it clips into. I got some small neodymium magnets and attached it with then. It looks totally stock.

I didn’t really just want a console swap just for looks so I did an add a circuit fuse in location 38. Manual says that is for 110V power point which I don’t have. It shuts off voltage when you open door. The other two 12V plugs stay hot all the time. I ran the new circuit to the 12V plug in the console and to the back of the console. I’m going to remove the 110V plug and replace it with a USB-A / C lighted charging plug. This way I’ll have functional options hooked to the console.

Thank you fanaticalkilla for advising me to get that other end of the plug. With that I was able to wire right to the plug and not mess with console wires and I can unplug it when necessary.

Ford sells these - as does Console Vault. I looked at the Console vault site - sold out. Ford site shows them. If you have Ford points it might offset the price. Can be found elsewhere too; maybe even pre-owned on eBay?
