2015 3.5eb running 3.31s on 35s - good ratio to re gear?

Hello everyone, I've recently bought a 2015 f150 3.5 eb platinum with a 6 inch lift and 35 inch tires. It has the 3.31 gears paired with the 6 speed auto. The truck is just a dog in stop and go traffic even keeping up with 60 mph highway speeds. Always wants to stay at a higher gear and relies a lot on the boost. I am aware the bigger tires and lift affect performance but I would like to have at least some of the pep back that the 3.5s usually have. What gear ratio would be best for my situation? I do mostly stop and go driving and some highway, occasionally haul a 500 gallon water tank. This is my first truck so any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Shift down ! The ford engineers put in that handy dandy +/- on the shift lever so you can shift down when you want. Do you off-road ? Rock climb ? Nah probly not. Plan on keeping the pickup indefinitely ? Plan on keeping the lift and tires ? Do you tow heavy ? A swap to 3.73 ratio would be sweet. Not absolutely needed, but nice.

Thanks for the reply. I am aware of the manual shifter and I did find myself downshifting often while going on an incline. Definitely helps. Gonna be off-road for sure not rock climbed. I love the look with the lift and tires so they’re staying on and do plan on keeping it for a long time. heaviest I’ll probably be towing is a 500 gallon water tank once or twice a month for my side job. I see lots of people go with the 4.10s since it’s more cost effective with the re gear job would that be over kill for my situation? Or would the 3.73s be more than enough?

"I am aware of the manual shifter and I did find myself downshifting often while going on an incline"

It's not the manual shifting mode. Rather It is described as,
"PRS (Progressive Range Selection)
Progressive Range Selection gives you the ability to lockout gears from the automatic shifting range. This may provide you with an improved driving experience (for example, in slippery conditions or when experiencing a steep grade).
With the gearshift lever in drive (D), press the – button to active PRS. The available and selected gears are indicated on the instrument cluster.
All available gears will display with the current gear indicated. Press the – button again to lock out gears beginning with the highest gear. Example: press the – button twice to lock out 6th and 5th gears. Only the available gears will display and the transmission will automatically shift between the available gears. Press the + button to unlock gears to allow the transmission to shift to higher gears. The transmission will shift automatically within the gear range you select." quoted from the 2015 F150 Manual.
It's fully automatic but with a reduced selection of gears. The Manual mode is just that, you have to up and down shift. KM

My suggestion is usually 4.10 - 4.56 with 4.88 on the extreme side for those serious in offroading, rock climbing etc that spend more time offroad then on.

I think with what im hearing from you I would go 4.10, I believe 3.73 would be underkill.

I went from 3.31 to 3.73s on my 2011 with 305/65R18 KO2s. Really didn't notice too much of a diff other than it holds gear better on inclines.

I also added a 400 lb cap and add a leaf at the same time so that don't help.

If I did it again I'd prob go 4.56 with 35's. But that's with the 6 speed trans.

With the 10 speed I'm sure guys could handle it just as well with 1 or 2 ratios higher.

Biggest thing, fuel mileage got no better.

Have you had the truck tuned?

That would be my first stop. While I am a huge advocate for gearing...a solid tuner can address some if not all of the issues you describes as they will alter the transmission tables as well as the engine.

Before you drop serious coin on a re-gear, which again, is not a bad idea...if it is not already tuned, DO IT.

Back to my corner.

Forgot to mention....

I have 3.31 gears in my lariat. Currently have the equivalent of a 33+ inch tire and am leveled. The initial tune changed my mind regarding a re-gear.

No off-road for me in this truck, its a trailer puller...and does VERY well.
