I’ve had the truck for about 6000 miles cam phasers have been replaced twice. And now the big one. 10r80 CDF drum failure. It’s in the shop now. I just got the parts list this morning. 10k…
I’m going to move forward with the rebuild, I’m hopeful that this is the last issue for a while.

This is the parts list:

Fluid (filled to OEM specification, adi qty as necessary)

overhaul kit

filter

updated cdf drum updated center support shell piston kit

valve body assembly speed sensor a output speed sensor

oll temp sensor output speed sensor b turbine speed sensor

updated sun gear w/ bearing converter shipping programming

I would be appreciative for any insight, or additions to the proposed list.

Thank you,

Those prices are wack. You can buy a whole reman unit straight from Ford that has all the updated stuff in it for like $5300 if you shop around online. Tasca Ford Parts usually does the best for me. And any decent tech can pull that trans and slap a new one back into it in 6 hours labor or so. It's not a hard job.

The shipping costs for a remanufactured transmission is the reason I wouldn’t go that route. The transmission shop I have it at will be tuning it as well. Considering these factors, I estimate that the total cost would still be around $9,000.

You don't need clutch packs unless some are burnt up. The frictions hold up well especially if your not tuned. There are supercharged mustangs out there still on factory clutches. The weakest links in this 10r80 are the CDF drum bushing and the F Clutch drum aka the trash can. Valve bodies can be weird too. Other than that, they are actually great transmissions. But people rarely come to a forum to talk about how good they are 😀

Tasca shows 10R80 at $5k plus core charge.
BD Diesel has upgraded trans and converter combo for $4500 plus $2k core charge.
I didn't check on shipping.

Best wishes.

That seems steep, although here in Canada we don't seem to have the same gouging. Factory rebuilt 10r80 was $7900 CAD installed on quote from dealer with 3 year warranty. I paid closer to $6200 CAD for them to rebuild it with 2 year warranty. Of course there was a screw up on their end causing the transmission to overheat and they put a brand new 10r80 and cooler in ($12,000 - $14,000 CAD range). Your cost for the rebuild is getting close to the cost of a brand new transmission, $13,000 CAD being close to $9,100 USD. Then again, maybe some things are better in Canada?

Similar story for a fella with an in-warranty 2022 F150. The dealership rebuilt the 10r80, and afterwards the tranny ran hot. The dealership responded that there was nothing wrong with the rebuild. He stayed calm and patient, but continued to report the overheating.
They finally relented and decided to just give him a fresh new transmission. Of course Ford had to approve?

Mechanic screwed up on mine. Owner of the dealership on the line was told the cooler was plugged up with clutch debris. Invoice stated he forgot to unclamp the cooling lines. Very happy to have a new transmission with it's improvements.

2019 f150 xlt. 95,000 miles, started having the cam phaser noise, dealer said $3500 repair, there is a customer satisfaction program that’s supposed to help with common issues. They ran my VIN, and wouldn’t you know, my truck doesn’t qualify. In addition to that, i started noticing hard shifting in and out of 3rd and 8th gear. I was told its most likely the CDF drum and repairing it might not be enough since it can cause damage to the transmission. $6000,00 repair, $10,000 replacements. I’m the only owner of truck. The fact that i have two major issues at less then 100,000 miles leaves a very bitter taste.

I will tell you they know it's a problem on these transmissions. Call Ford directly and get an advocate , they will pay half of the cost even over the warranty. There are class action lawsuits going on now so eventually they will pay one way or another. Total was $8600 and they will pay half . Im at 88000 miles but I repeatedly told them transmission was going out.

I have a 2019 2.7l V6 with 75k. Original owner. I've had the one catalytic converter replaced, TCCM replaced, replaced the rear end and now about to go back in the shop to either rebuild or replace the transmission. Along with a handful of other services and parts this truck has been a nightmare. It's a love hate relationship for sure.
